Can anyone out there recommend a good webcam and associated software for budget video conferencing? (E.g. via MSN Messenger)

My girlfriend's off to Canada for 7 weeks and we'd like to stay in touch by video! :)

Cheers for any advice,

Mark

creative do some very very good cams about £30 if i remember not the cheapest but very good picture quality

which are best for perving naked on ?

Well mate, if you are using a laptop then a Trust Spacecam 150 is the one to have, cost me a tenner from PC World, quality is spot on, manual focus, 25 fps, automatic white balance and has a special clip to clip to the top of your screen. Otherwise I would recommend any Trust product. If you want to spend a bit more then Creative make some brilliant bits of kit and so do Logic3

I have a philips pro, which is the best Ive used. I use MSN to record assessments from clients who are too far away, gives excellent vieo and sound.

I used my old USB "Eyetoy" cam for the PS2... works fine for keeping in touch with the familia

Other than that I can use my digital camera or even my digital camcorder!

If you have something with a lens and a USB connection, you can normally find drivers for it to work...

Yay, I use EyeToy as well! :D That's probably only useful if you have one already, though - the cheapest EyeToy package is about £30, I think :/

I have found the best web cams to be digital camera's if yours has got this feature try it?

^^as Kay says! Although it took me a bit more searching and effort to get it working, since I run Win98 :( Should be far easier on XP though. You can use it as a cam on MSN, or to capture images or video etc, although I've not tested the mic. One odd thing is that the cam image is mirror-reversed with some apps - same way it would be while playing EyeToy on the PS2! :o
