Hey, am new to the forum and wanted to say hello.

Have just sold a '94 RX7 (as the fuel economy was killing me at 13mpg) and am now on the hunt for a 300ZX.

It seems the whole jap scene is in a bit of a depression at the moment, so I figure its not a bad time to buy.

So, I'll be kicking about, and reading a lot (try and get myself up to speed).

And of course, if you have a 92-94 lightly modded TT (pref SWB), with a decent interior and some UK service history - let me know :)

Welcome buddy,

Dont expect good consumption out of a Z either. Moderate driving round town will give you 16-17 to the gallon. If you drive like a granny you may see 20 MPG :)

Andy

welcome dude you wil enjoy it here but

the fuel consumption of the zed aint gonna be much different to the rx7

ive seen mine as low as 8mpg

have a scan about and see what you think

Never buy a Zed to save money matey :(

probably not what you wanted to hear lol

but like i said have a scan about and make your own mind up

i lurve mine

Welcome buddy.

MPG is a fairly big issue with the Z aswell, daily useage i get 17/20mpg, harder driving 12/15mpg and on the track at Bruntingthorpe a couple of weeks ago, i saw 2mpg!!

They are bigger than a Rex inside thou and if you go for the SWB (good choice BTW) they have a slightly bigger boot! :D

I know where there is a SWB TT Auto for sale at the mo for not a lot of cash!

have fun

Rich

12-15? I wished. If i step on it I am getting 8 MPG. If I dont I get around 15. But Hey! what a fookin car. If I wanted economy I would have got a fiesta. Well ok maybe not? but an hiardressers car anyway.

AND. if you dont use what you got there aint no point in having it?

Welcome anyway mate. Top Gear Towers. you aint Jerremy C. are you?

Untrue. I drove like a granny on a long trip on my slightly modded Z last year and got 32mpg.

I drove like a granny (With some town and 80+mph driving) with my sick quite modded Z and got 29mpg.

I was refering to urban driving but your right. On a run expect better. I've never seen 32MPG. Best I've had on a run in 26 MPG and that was constant 70 mph with very little positive boost.

This UK gallon or US gallon?

I was driving 55-60mph all the way :D

I find its harder to drive slower than fast

an Rx7 will be less economic that a zed, its Rotary engine is well known for its poor fuel consumption.

I averaged 23mpg on a 160mile trip the other week, and that included a LOT of tripple figure driving, toying with a Focus RS and a good 20 mile of in town traffic.

On a 180 mile journey I have made a few times in the zed, at 90mph cruising I return 24-25mpg.

A full tank (£60 of optimax) will give me around 350 miles

I am on stock boost, but with a gently motorway drive Im sure I could easily get that into the High 20's

UK but didn't know there was a difference??

Sounds about right at 55 mph. Must admid i've never tried to drive that slow, you must be very disiplined!! :p Slowest I can can drive on the motorway for long periods is 70. ;) I guess after an engine rebuild thats fair enough.

If you're who I think you are, then you know a friend of mine called Simon, who used to have an MR2t and now has an RX-7. If that's the case then I know your RX-7 was no ordinary one !

Whatever reason you have chosen for getting a Z, good choice!!

i've seen that name before, wernt u on mkivsupra.net looking for a supra or something like that?

Thanks for the kind comments all - seems like a good crew! :)

I've really kicked off a mpg debate - and in response, I would kill for 20mpg after the flame spitting 7!

In answer to a few;

Yup I work on the Top Gear programme. In fact I organised a generation shootout a few years back, which included a 350Z Vs 300ZX. Cant remember the name of the guy who came down with the 300 (sorry if your reading this, I forget the names of everyone) but it was a top day filming - and I'll never forget the 300 roaring past me at 50mph!!

I used to have a *very* heavily modded MR2 T, before I got a RX7. And I do know Si, who's got one now.

The Rex I had was a beauty, one of the best cars I've had - but my love of Jap fast cars wont let go, and I cant afford to own all of them, so I have to keep selling them and moving on. :(

I am on the Supra forum (and pretty much every other) and am looking at getting a Supra too, and an R34 GTR, and an Integra Type R, and a 3000GT, and a 200Sx, and an Evo or Imprez... you see my problem?!? :)

Stella - that Porsche front ended Rex is very well known, and the only one in the country as far as I'm aware. If you go to the mazdarotaryclub website and do a search you'll find it. The guy only got in the country four or five months ago.

Ohhhhhhhh!!

Tickets to top gear please :D
