A sudden fault has developed in my autobox, manifesting as no change from 1st to 2nd, unless the acceleration is very slight (the engine revs out to the limiter otherwise). It may be that 2nd is being missed as kickdown from 3rd also gives a rev out.

I get a number 3 error on the autobox selfdiagnostic, meaning a throttle sensor short or loose connection.

I have looked at other threads on this and it seems I need to check the voltages on the ECU and autobox controller. Where are they and how do I go about doing that? Do I have to get in from under the car (this is a problem as I don't have stands).

Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

Don't know if this is of any use, and you may have already checked. Have you checked the actual throttle sensor on the passenger side front of the plenum? The wires are prone to going. Dave (pretending to know what I'm on about again)

i think it gets you to check it at the auto ecu so it tests the wiring at the same time, killing two birds with the one stone. the auto ecu sits beside the engine ecu under the passangers footwell. you will need to get the pin outs for them.

i would start by checking it at the tps its self on the 3 pin plug, its the wires that come out the bottom, not the one with the connector on the TPS if you know what i mean?

have you tested the kick-down switch on the pedal? it might be stuck open or closed??? just a thought.

Thanks for the replies. I have now fixed the error code from the auto ECU by fixing the connection to the TPS on the front of the engine. However, my problem with the non-existent 2nd gear persists.

Any further ideas would be appreciated.
