Ambient Temp Gauge

Happy new year all,

Just a quick question about my ambient temp gauge.

There is about 2" of snow on the ground right now and my parents came to visit me in their Cougar. Their amb temp gauge reads -1 right now, I double checked it against mine in the Z and it read +7???? WTF

Are these gauges really that inaccurate, or is it just mine? I thought it was reading wrong for ages but that's proof!

Are these gauges needed for anything else i.e. engine management?

Many thanks in advance.

Robert

i had a fiddle with my one and it seems to be very accurate. all the way through europe it was laways wihtin 1 degree of any temperature reading i saw on a billboard ect. This mornign mine showed -3 and it hink that was about right.

Only last week my ambient sensor told me it was +40, my Austin Maestro told me to buckle up the seat belt, my Microwave told me the jacket potato was cooked and my toaster told me to go out and murder some old tramps.

Wierd huh wink.gif

Cheers to 300z & Clarkey for the info. 2 bad & 1 good gauge so far....

SENNA you madman, you crack me up!!!!!!!

Cheers to everyone!

You think thats bad, the one in my Renault thinks it's 122degF outside! Hmm.. probably where I half ripped the wingmirror (where the sensor is) off on AndyP's trees! smile.gif

Those'd be the same sodding trees that claimed the mirror on my Zed too !

Hmmmmmm! I think AndyP's trees need to come down biggrin.gif did they not claim his mirror a few weeks ago?CHAINSAW needed me thinks biggrin.gif.

The temp sensor for the car isnt usually correct when you first start it, it takes a few mins of driving for it read the correct outside temp, probly coz the sensor isnt in direct contact with the outside, but hidden behind some bodywork....

That's because it's supposed to report air temp, rather than air temp with wind chill.

Being a Series II I'm not sure my car has one of these, or if it does the I'd guess that the a/c control just doesn't display the temp separately.

Wind chill will not affect something like a temperature sensor wink.gif Wind chill occurs when there is a temperature differential between the air and the thing experiencing wind chill. If the air is stationary it doesn't dissipate as much heat as it would if there was a constant supply of cold air...

CheerZ,

Andy

Good point, maybe they are usually positioned outside the airflow in order to protect them from the rain etc.
