Guys,

Was considering an Apexi boost controller, but i have standard turbs, which i imagine should run at about 9psi and can go to 13psi safely, is that right?

Question is is this a worthwhile thing to fit?

Dan.

Yep, well worth it. Stock tubs with Uprated boost to 13-14psi is probably what 75% of the forum are running.

so do you need any other mods to keep it safe or do you literally just have the boost controller fitted??

Also take it you can do all this on the standard ECU??

But if you're gettin an Apexi boost controller (AFC) dont those displays show the boost levels anyway??

Yes, and you can set up audible warnings / boost cut on most controllers.

ok cool.....so why the need for the new ECU, why cant u use the old one?

AFAIK the standard ecu doesnt map for boost levels that high. aftermarket ones do. sorry when i said new ecu i meant aftermarket one :smash:

ah right i getcha....what do the standard ones run up to then?

i dont know - i would imagine up to 9.5psi - the stock boost limit

You do feel the difference with a boost controller on, best mod you can do.

Although stock is supposed to be 9 psi that is a max figure, and i'd bet most stock zeds are only boosting at around 6 or 7 psi, wheras with a conrtoller you can make it maintain a steady 10, 12, whayever you like really.

Best mod money can buy.

Stock boost is 9.5psi and if the car is'nt pushing that out in standard form then it has boost leaks or is in safety mode and should be fixed before attempting to increase boost further.

but u need a new ECU to take it over 9 definately do you?

Ideally yes, some owners run them without an uprated ECU to about 12psi, but considering they are less than £100, its not really worth the risk to not fit one. (IMO)

I remember chipping my car and upping the boost for the first time.

I shat my pants it was so much faster :D

You don't have to upgrade the ECu when you increase the boost, but it is a good idea.

I ran about 12psi for a year or more before I chipped it.
