Hey all

For those of you not mechanically minded or, like me, you're lazy and don't like to get your hands dirty, then you could do a lot worse than get down to your local ATS

If you don't run a seriously modded ZX and are happy with 5w40 fully synthetic oil, ATS can do the oil & filter change using 4 litres of Shell Helix Ultra for £34.99. Yes, £34.99!!!

Now I've always used Shell Helix Ultra and usually buy it from Shell forcourts for my local garage to use in the service. But it costs £39.99 to buy 4 litres.......

.....So there, ATS throw in a new filter and do the work all for less than you can buy the oil.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

not sure it's a good idea to use anything but an OEM filter.

Do not use non anything other than a Nissan oil filter, most oil related problems/ damage is cause by a combination of oil and oil filter issues.

I posted some time ago about the use of filters like Unipart ( but was sadly deleted ?)which they promote have the antidrain back valve in them, pity that as this is not required on the 300zx filter as its position does not require it and in any case the valve fitted on some rogue filters ( e.g. Unipart) can actually cause low or no oil pressure as they get fitted the wrong way around inside the filter!

I have seen this first hand when a customer who worked in a motor factor had one fitted in the course of an oil change the result was a banging engine with no oil pressure! a new Nissan filter sorted it out quick time and when the rogue filter was cut in half the valve was in backwards!

Other filters are often much smaller than the original, Champion as an example (available from Halfords) is about a third smaller.

Use a Nissan one and save money also! the genuine one is often less expensive than copies.

Take a nissan one with you Rich, there only a fiver, your still not having to do the job yourself.

they'll tell u their using fully synth but it'l be cheapo creosote oil or something. bet u!

do it yourself, its not hard. even if your not mechanically minded. in fact in all the cars ive worked on, its probably one of the easiest filters to reach, (ignoring the fact i need a scissor and a trolley jack to get under it) because its right at the bottom of the engine and 'right way up' most cars the filter is hidden half way down the back, on its side. so when you fill up the filter before you spin it on most of it drains out befor you even get the thread started. not a problem with the Z :)

BTW i wouldnt trust most garages to top up the screen wash! someone i know took their car in for a service and when it came back the window wash kept frothing, when i drained it, it was good ol' fairy and water. and he was charged for so called 'screan wash' too. BE WARNED!

or for the extra tenner pop up z-tech castrol RS and genuine filter and copper washer or

DIY :p

Do it yourself - you know it makes sense. If I can do it anyone can, it's a piece of cake.

FooK....really???

Is that internal space as they looked the same from the outside???

And my oil pressure didnt change?

Think id better change it then :smash:

It makes sense to not cut corners on your ZED. Use only approved items and approved oil.

I done an oil change at the weekend..

Changed filter with an OEM part and used Magnatec 10-40w.

Have checked the dipstick and the right level of oil is in the car. When i fire her up the pressure initially rises to between 4 and 6. after driving the car, the pressure drops then when i pull up and idle the engine, the needle drops to below the 2 mark.

Any ideas on what i need to do or is this ok??

I always use a pattern part oil filter, TBH, i've never had a single problem with oil pressure etc.

Albeit excactly the same size as the OEM part!

The stock oil pressure gauges are pretty crap due to the sender units failing :(

Using Shell Helix Ultra is not skimping on oil mate - it far exceeds Nissan's approved type and with the exception of one lot of Millers, is what I've always used in my ZX.

I gave them a ring about the oil filter and they said it would be a "Blueprint" made part - which IIRC are supposed to make quality japanese car components. Can't comment on whether they are good parts.........

Richard, no disrespect to you but take a look at the photo below, I posted this sometime ago about fitting "Blueprint" water pumps, the genuine Nissan one is far superior in design the implelor is bigger wider and fits the swirl area better.
