I've been about ten times in the last ten years. I LOVE the place. I'm going there for my stag weekend in September. :dance:

 

Past trips have been mainly with mates but been twice with g/f too so have a few favourite places.

Get a 'pop out' map, often sold in Insideout travel books. Waterstones sell them.

 

I guess you're flying and will land at Schipol. It's 15 miles to Amsterdam. A taxi is 30 Euros I think and the train about 4 per person but I find the signs confusing - ask someone which train you get on.

 

In Amsterdam use the trams. Buy a 15 Euro 'strippenkart' from a shop that sells fags and stuff. Stamp it twice per person per journey on each trip in the machines on the trams - easy and fast way to get about otherwise you will get knackered.

 

The red light district is worth a look round and lots of bars and restaurants and coffee shops and hookers in windows some of who are gorgeous. Burly men on bridges will offer you crack.

 

For smoking dope, try the Greenhouse coffee shop on Oudezijds Voorburgwal where it meets Oude Doelenstr (at the south of the red light district). I've tried a fair few and this one has great atmosphere, great dope and beer too.

 

The Leidesplien has good night life and bars etc (as does the red light district). The Grasshopper at Leidesplein is quite good in the evenings. The BoomChicago show is not worth seeing.

 

I've been to the Van Gough Museum three times - it's really good. Reiksmuseum and Anne Frank's house weren't as good.

 

If you're with a girlfriend or couples and want a fancy meal try the supperclub (http://www.supperclub.nl). You'd have to book now though. Rather than "mens" and "womens" toilets they have "hetero" and "homo" and they say it's an "avante guard dining experience", not a restaurant!

 

If you haven't booked accomodation try http://www.hotels.nl (not http://www.hotles.nl !)

I went to the porn museum, the hash museum and the bulldog bar where they sell the joints ready rolled. Never did a hooker cos i was never in any fit state but they come in all shapes and sizes even something to tempt chrisC LOL :rofl:

Ignore any offers of drugs from the street vendors, not worth the risk and have a good / high time lol

The Bulldogs are OK (there are at least 3 or 4 of them around), but so well known they tend to get full of Euro-Chavs.

 

I usually go to a place just outside the red-light district on Rembrandtplein, called Smokey's. They've got an excellent selection of gear you can choose from menu's, and a big glass case full of the stuff so you can take your pick. They also do a 'LOYALTY' scheme, where they give you a small sticker with every bag you buy, and a credit card type thing with spaces for the stickers. When you get 10, they give you a free choice of a bag. :nana2:

 

Once I've got me gear and mellowed out a bit, I usually tend to do a brief tour of the windows :p :) before hanging out at a couple of bars owned by the 'Angels'. The best and most mellow one is Suzies Bar, at the end of the run of 3 Bulldogs, and the other one is on the opposite side of the canal and called Excallibur (also called 'The Other Place')

 

Later on you might like to check out the 'Pink Elephant', or from what I've heard about you mate, then I think you'll probably prefer 'The Cock Ring' LOL!!! :tongue:

Avoid buying spirits - the beer in Dam Square is pricey but the shorts are extortionate.

 

Visit the PCG Hajenius cigar/tobacco shop. Awesome place. http://www.hajenius.com

yes do the Bulls Bar. Had a great night there till 4 in the morning did not have one joint all night but still cane out stoned. Had to ride my bike to Assen in the morning still stoned and P***** not got at 165 MPH in the rain great weekend.......... Have fun but give me a call next time so I can show you the bar.. :dance:

I feel a 300zx club trip to amsterdam should be on the cards.
