Castle Combe trackday - awesome highlight of my year!!

Did the Castle Combe trackday yesterday. Bloody brilliant!. It was my first time on track so a real eye opener. The car went great, the engine didn't even seem that hot and I was ragging the hell out of it. The stock breaks on the other hand were a pile of sh*t!! I've got my new brembos but didn't have time to fit them. I didnt want to encounter problems and not have the car ready for the trackday (one way op as I've got to drill the mounting holes out). They were fine for the first round of laps (10-15 mins). I had a good spin out coming out of quarry corner (very tricky corner, saw a picture of a porshe from last month literally 10ft in the air and spinning!! driver walked away with a black eye and no car!!). I browned my missus's g-string as I went whizzing backwards towards the barrier with no insurance and finally stopped literally 1/2 a meter from it. I think the combination of this and the hard driving/breaking boiled the fluid as after that I could only do 10mins before my breaks would fade to nothing. A new experience for me, foot right to the floor and no brakes! had to pump it a bit to make them work and use the handbrake as I was returning to the pit. Definately recommend good new brakes for anyone going on a trackday, I'm sure its old news to all you old sweat track vets out there.

I put my stock wheels on the back which had new bridgestones. I never had the fronts up with me so had to keep my antera's on. This worked fine. I was worried about the size difference but it's not that bad as the profile of the stocks is a lot bigger so the actual difference is not that noticable. The tyres would feel like sponges after 5 laps, the backs were up at 39psi as well, could have done with making the fronts harder but didn't get a chance.

There was a photographer there and I've bought a great A3 print, he forgot to give me the digital version though. These are also taken by him. Check out my yellow g-force indicator. It's the pre-curser of the r34 ones!

All in all the best day of my year.

Nice one Dave, glad to see motor stayed within temp allso.

Tony :)

Do you think there would be interest in a Z day track day?

We tried to organise one a few years ago, but there was a lot of talk but no action. A lot of people giving excuses. :(

We also tried to get a few from the ZClub to bring some classic cars with them. Bet that would generate some magizine coverage too.

What do people think? Z track day?

Great pics. I do have one daft question though: what's the tape on the headlights, indicators and sidelights for? Protection against debris hitting them and shattering them or something?

Its if they get broken the shouldnt drop glass on the track. The tape should hold it together

It would be good to see a load of zeds on track together, i was the only Zed at Castle Combe that day. I guess a lot of owners tend to treasure their Zed and don't want to risk trashing it on a track. I certainly treasure mine, but also believe that it should be driven the way it was designed to be driven. It's a hard performance car, not an aston martin.

I'd be up for another one, although I am considering saving some cash and making my other car a 200sx that I can thrash a bit more and try some drifting in. UJCC are talking about organising an airfield day for this sort of thing, and I don't think I want to put the Zed through that.
