Hi my jap import twin turbo, seems to skip to the left when going over bumps in the road and living in the pot hole capital of the world(sheffield) this is quite often. its been doing this for over a year know but has got worse in the past three months, and has infact passed 2 MOTs (at a suposedly strict garage) the last one only a month ago, i read an article in japenese performance magazine saying that knackered propshafed bearings cuase the car to skip, could this be the problem? how big a job is this, and any ideas of cost as the birth of a second child is threatening to come between me and my car and i cant be having that :D :D :( :( (.....if my wifes reading this im only kidding)

Propshaft bearing will cause a vibration felt through you seat at speed, and can cause a knocking feeling through the drivetrain on hard acceleration from standstill.

IMO...The car skipping to either the left or right over bumps would have to he suspension or steering related. Most likely front tension arm bushes or rear tie-rod (hicas) arm bushes.

Mine skips all over the road when I go over bumps because there's no oil in the passenger side rear shock :headvswal Note to myself...........must get a new one

or worn rear HICAS arms ;)

I had worn HICAS arms and the back of the car was "all over the place" on corners or going over bumps.

Deffo HICAS arms, same on mine, replaced with second hand ones (I know :slap: ) and all is good now (but for how long  )

thanks for your help guys, shouldnt the car fail the MOT on dodgey HICAS arms? or is the garage not as strict as people think

are these the arms with the ball joint on? anyone know how many pennies to replace, thanks again for your help

Fixed mine with arms from Ryan £50 each ish If I rem shouldn't take more than an hour to fit.

id say worn shocks, the traditional MOT test of pressing on each corner and looking for bounce i feel doesnt really work on the Z because the srings are so firm and the car is so heavy, and if they are gas shock then there will probably be no sign of leakage from them either.

check for worn hicas arms on the rear, but these i wuld have thought would have been easy to show up in an MOT, check your tire pressures arn't too highm its not likely but it might contribute to the skip.

my moneys on HICAS arms too, tho worn shocks doesnt help. sideways skipping is usually cos the arm moves under load.

as said about £50 ish each. took me about 15-20mins to do. the rear tracking does need setting up after however :)

its easy to check by jacking the rear of the car up & checking for side to side play
