Well the car is booked into the MOT station on Saturday morning  , I was just wondering what are the most common things the zx fails on (not that I expect a fail - obviously :nelson: ).

Same here, mine is booked in saturday morning, this will be it's second mot since I've had her, for some reason, this time, I'm 5hitting it in case she fails

To be honest I've decided to expect the worst, that way anything else is a bonus! I have asked to be able to 'observe' the guy doing the test so that I can see exactly what he's talking about if he finds anything.

HICAS arms.......Deffo!

Mine has never failed a MOT luckily but I was advised on rear tie rods attached to the Hicas. Swiftly replaced them. I have seen a few Z's with really bad play there causing the rear end to feel a bit skippy. Seems to be a common problem. ;) Good luck

Another point worth mentioning. If any of the front or rear steering components have to be replaced best get the whole car tracking lasser aligned. Out of aligned wheels are not good for handling of tyre wear ;)

Check everything first as I feel the new electronic MOT's are a rip off.. Full Fee Retest what a con !!! It even tell you on the back of the cert it's not worth the paper it's written on "Well not in those words but thats what It means"

I read about zeds failing on emissions.

I read about zeds failing on emissions.

Take the pipe off the fuel pressure reglator that fixes the CO then put it back on once out the MOT station.. Plug the pipe so it doesn't hiss or the muppet MOT bloke will notice yer at it.

Craig

I read about zeds failing on emissions.

Imports dont need to checked for emmisions which is why you can decat a 92 onwards import. Not sure if this has changed with the new MOT's though?

(just noticed yours is a UK so doesn't apply) ;)

is the Scottish MOT different to the English one then??

Get this. Out in Canada a car only has to have a safety (MOT) when you buy it. If you keep the car for 20 years or more it doesn't have to be checked once! only when you come to sell it. Sounds good but f**king dangerous if you ask me :nono:

Hi Paul

This is all correct but we have been instructed that all 1992 on, vehicles import or not must get the CAT test, If the CAT has been removed It will fail. Thats all I was saying. I know some smart kids come in bleating on about us not having the correct data for there WRX import but we have been told to fail them.

Craig

im out in canada at the moment, and man there are some sheds on the road out here!!!!! never sure if the cars round here will actually stop, or if the rust will allow them to separate from the chassis or not!!!!!!! Stil does save on the annual heart ache of the MOT....

by who???

i take it you work out of the same testers manual as me?!

there is a specific route to follow with emissions tests. a BET must be carried out 1st, most zeds will pass this anyway. if it fails you MUST do a vehicle specific test. if there is no match for a Z32 then what do you test it to????? :nono:

you must then do a default non cat test!

as iv said, unless your tests in scotland are different

Tell me about it. The amount of trucks i've seen that have lost rear axels or front wheels coming away from the car due to ball joints breaking is un-believeble

Where abouts in Canada are you

Wierd, I had a 92 nova 1.2, as new had no cats, i believe cats were on some 92 cars, most 93 ones, but not law on all cars till 1994(K/L reg).

Either way imports are excluded, thats why you have to take your log book for with you for mot to prove its an import, do this and no cat test.

Oh, and most common fail has got to be play in the rear rack/ arms.

if tension arm bushes were an mot failure they would be just as bad as tie rod arms/bushes

i think in extreme cases tension arm bushes will fail if there to bad, often find that silicone gel leaking and the bushes split

ooh, kinda!

it is true that many 92 cars have no cats! this is why a BET test is carried out & then a non cat test done after if it fails.

Imports are tested in the exact same way as a UK!!! if it fails the BET test then a non cat test is carried out if its not in the database. (ALL zeds!)

an import vehicle that is in the database would recieve a cat test the same as a UK!!

after 95 ALL vehicles are subject to a default cat test ;)
