How can i provide a warranty that is not even covered by the manufacturer ?

thats what im asking! i thought as a retailer in the UK, its the traders responsibilty not the manufacturers to provide 1 years warranty.

not 100% sure but thought this to be the case.

does anyone know legally for sure??

(not being funny or anything chris, just thought we should get our facts straight! :) )

No probs mate, if that were the case then i dont think that 1 of the traders on here (or any other board) could stay in business tbh

Q. I bought a fridge/freezer about eighteen months ago, and the freezer section has completely failed. I went back to the shop, but they refused to do anything as it was outside the original twelve-month guarantee. What are my rights?

A. If the time limit has expired on the guarantee then you have no claim under the guarantee. However, if you can show that the goods were not of satisfactory quality at the time of sale i.e. they were not as durable as it is reasonable to expect, then you may have a claim against the trader or finance company (if applicable) for compensation under the Sale of Goods Act.

Think that covers it doesnt it ? All guide lines are set out on my website they have been since day one

hmm, this is what i was thinking of:

sale of goods act

have used this myself. covers goods for up to six years (or reasonable life expectancy).

Aye we need an answer to this as there is no way that i am prepared to offer a six year warranty, would a trader on any other board ?

What about the fact that he broke it directly after going over a massive pot hole ?

The sale of goods act covers a reasonable life for the goods under the guidelines for use provided by the manufacturer. If you (or the manufacturer) dont sell it as " good for potholes" and he breaks it in a pothole, hes not covered. However if you sell an electronic item, which is not subject to wear and tear, and he fits it and uses it within manufacturers guidelines and it packs up in 6 months, you have a case to argue.

Most traders get round this by saying it has to be fitted by a competent fitter, they usesd to say by one of our fitters, but they got *****xed for that
