We were talking aboot this a while back, search for LPG, Gas and Autogas. Ive been thinking about doing it but I don't think it would go very well with our hot engines and (comparatively) high pressure turbos, the turbo cars that have been converted are usually Volvos, Saabs etc. I think it would work fine if you used a boost controller to turn your boost off, also you'd probably have to use a toroidal LPG tank that replaces the spare wheel so boot space is pretty much a no-no.

I voted "Don't be silly"

FFS if you want economy ditch the ZX and buy a diesel

Here Here. its a zed and economy is not (or should at least not be) an issue.

TOO TRUE FELLAS, BUT YEAH NUMPONS KEEP ASKING ME WHY I DONT CONVERT IT TO GAS, AND TO WHICH I ANSWER I BOUGHT IT FOR BALLS OUT PERFORMANCE NOT TO TAKE MY GRAN TO THE SHOPS

As well as everything that's been said...

The car's complicated enough without adding a parallel fuelling system.

You'd have to wonder if the gas injectors are up to the task, especially on anything remotely tuned (maybe they are! I just don't know :) ).

With the injectors in the inlet manifold, that's 6 more potential boost leaks!

If it was NA and you didn't mind adding weight and you didn't mind losing what little loadspace you've got then I'd consider it.

Other than that, the lower running cost would be attractive (after the year it would take you to recover the installation cost!) but IMHO it's not worth it.

work out the maths m8

over a grand to convert, no grants available because of the age

how long to get that back?? you probably never would

same way owning a diesel from new is now false economy, as its now on par or more expensive that petrol, but you still pay upwards or more than 2 grand for a diesel compared to petrol model, thats A LOT of mileage to earn your "saving" back

yes you visit the garage less often, but i would prefer the 2 grand+ in the bank;)

Dime Bar for me please..... i voted yes, sorry. lol i haven't got gas fitted. but think on this you guys, Autogas is well over 100 octane i believe....

Super unleaded everytime in the Z. Expense is irrelevant. Although maybe if I wanted a Range Rover Vogue I would convert that.

Sorry but its been said before , if you want economy buy a diesel, you buy a Z cos it looks great, its sexy and has performance to match, gas bottles in the back just aint right IMHO.

  • 4 weeks later...

I remember a few years ago when LPG started to become better known, Vauxhall specially converted one of their Vectra SRI 2.5 V6's for their one make champoinship.

At first it was not quite on the pace, but after a few meetings they tweaked it enough to keep up with all the rest of them.

I think it was a demonstration more than anything, but it was effective.
