I think its do with pressure and means pressure per square inch.

 

I'm not entirely sure myself thoug.

It's probably horse with a slight cold power.

It's the metric equivalent of BHP.. (so yes.. pferdsthingymabob).. more or less the same ish.. sortof.. kinda smile.gif

Pferdestärke (ps) is german for Horse Power

Cavalli (cv) is Italian for Horse Power

 

As explained on that site, the different countries have different ways to work them out, only slightly though.
