check the gearbox oil if its burnt then its possibly a dead autobox quite common on the 300zx unfortunatly,a manual conversion or an uprated ztech autobox is the only way forward

sorry to hear about your rear screen i expect you could of got a cheap rear glass of one of the traders on here

Auto box dead at 60K km? That is very odd except that trans oil was never changed. Before packing up has it been giving you some funny buzzing noise? as this is ussualy the sign the filter is dirty or need oil change.

As its, if its still shifting 1 and 2 don't drive until you have someone change the trans fliud totally flussing everything including fluid in the touque converter. So you will need 2 gallon of dex3 transmission fluid for that in the least and try it after that is done you may be lucky it change all through.

even so, you will better off buying another box.

Mileages on imports can be suspect.

Good luck with the car whatever it turns out to be - you're quite a way from all our favourite specialist mechanics!

I presume you were driving it hard when this happened. very same thing happened to me a couple of years ago in a low mileage n/a while driving it seriously hard to dublin early one morning

exact same clunking noise you're talking about, no reverse, only drive in 1 or 2, would not drive in D. Oil was clean, but the box was completely knackered.

Hope you get sorted :(

There's always decent autoboxes floating around somewhere on the forum for reasonable money.

well its still going in drive just the reverse gear and high end of the drive not going. wasnt hammering it hard when it happend on motorway so pretty gradual but had been chassing beemers the night before.

will try fluid can i do it my self or will it require speacialized help.

oh and unfortunatly i didnt have much choice but to drive it the remaining 90 odd mile when it happend or i would have been pretty much stranded it the scotish highlands.

So is a manual conversion reccomended where cound i get the nessecery parts and what sort of cash would it require to do .
