Ive killed several e36 m3's (real ones not badges 320's LOL). I remeber stevo racing and e46 and if i remember was faster, but he was running 16psi at the time LOL

seeing that most zeds are now 10-15 year olds, i think instead of trying to compete with modern cars, we should be giving our cars T.L.C. and a good high speed run now and then.

We just can't keep up with the technology being put into new cars nowadays, so overmodifying might beat some beemer off the lights, but it's not going to be good in the long run, (unless you're loaded stupid and don't give a sh*t).

I don't think most of the members on here are loaded, so c'mon guys, lets just look after our zeds. :)

I raced a new one ('04) coming back from ztech a while back. All boring straight line stuff on the motorway. Was pretty interesting, as soon as we hit it he was much more responsive and pulled a car length or so on me, but as soon as the laggy old beast spooled up, I could reel him in and pass him easy.

Most of this was 50mph up though, off the mark it'll probably have you.

When the turbo's kicked in we gained so quickly I was almost sitting next to him! Lol! Seem to remember he also gave us a friendly wave of acknowledgment so Beemer drivers can't be all bad :D

I raced a new at the time '04' M3 when my auto zed was running rough (standard) and there was nothing in it TBH.

I have also raced an older plate M3 Evo again when my Zed wasnt brill and again nothing in it, all boring straight line stuff again.

The other day going to JAe, I raced a brand spanking new BMW 3 series Aplina convertible, mid range I reeled him in so fast, a little too easy but then at 155mph he maxed out and it was 'bye bye'. Fair enough my zed isnt standard now but I thought he would have given me a decent run, I really should get that head gasket sorted, I must be losing power there too!!

Anyone know what spec these new Alpina's are?

Anorak moment........

Official stats (Autocar test):

0-60 ZX = 5.6, E36 M3 evo = 5.4

1/4 ZX = 14.4, E36 M3 evo = 13.9

Top ZX = 155 restricted, E36 M3 evo = 162 (not restricted)

As for comparisons with age etc the E36 M3 is now getting on too, with some being 10 years old + and having covered high miles.

Whilst on paper the E36 M3 is faster, the figs are so close that it is down to driver ability at the end of the day.

The E46 is a different matter though - it should kill a stock ZX.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

You know the E46 has essentially the same engine as the E36 right? Evo I mean.

To answer the other question. There are two engine sizes. 3.0 and 3.2. The EVO being the 3.2.

kick more than one in my 300

and 2 in my evo

stevo

all down to the driver !!!! ive seen the things an M3 can do and to be honest against a stock zed , the M3 will prob beat , Never undersestimate the M3 , its a complete beast !! Its a detuned race engine after all !!

They are nice cars. I've seen a few E46 convertibles knocking around the place. Very nice too... although way out of my price range. I believe the 0-60 time for the E46 is 4.9 seconds, so significantly quicker than my beloved TT. But then it would cost about 8 times as much. However, if anyone feels they want to give me one...

Was he doing 140 Mph or Kmh next to that M3????

MPH. i know cos i was a passenger too. im sure my kecks are in the back seat somewhere to this day. lol.

not bad considering mine would of given up at that stage lol

A good TT should reach 170 with the right stretch to run on..... :o
