More Maf

Can anyone tell me what should happen if the maf is disconnected while running. Does the car stall?

My connector came adrift and the car conked.

I was under the impression the car should have still run, but not over 2500 RPM

Car will still run but air/fuel mixture will be very lean. If you check your exhaust outlet, you will notice black smoke if you have the MAF clip disconnected

As for motor not reving above 2.5k to 3k rpm is a symtom of dead MAF.

hope that helps

If the car does not stall, how does it keep running with the MAFdisconnected. It must fall back on something to work out the air flow. If this fall back mechanism is not working would that be why it stalled?

This is interesting because a few months ago my car stalled while slowing down to take a sharp bend. Interesting because just before reaching that bend, I had hit a pothole deep enough to completely dislodge the airfilter housing (previous owner had removed the air filter :wack: and not secured the housing back in place properly).

Of course this meant MAF went with it, all this I discovered the following day. But while I was trying to repair the MAF, plugging the connector in and out while the car was idling did not stall it.

when working on my car I forgot to connect the MAS back up and the engine would not start at all, until I plugged it back on.

So some run without it, and others don't. Why is this?
