Was out and about today and passed a traffic cop in a brand new Range rover, leather interior, so not a cheap version ( the designer on those must have taken a day off when they done the back end. FFS) then gets home and watching the SO19 boys turning up to nick some people re the bombings in an X-5.

No w I am by no means anti-police, every job that involves power over others draws some tosspots, but generally speaking I think they do a bloody hard job for not enough money.

But, I am guessing thta between the two motors above your not going to get much change out of 120 Large, neither are particularly spacious, or fast or inconspicous so why does the Met spend shed loads of money on the latest motors and then complain that they cant afford to pay their guys a decent bunce? If I wanted an inconspicous van in which to carry myself and a few heavily armed mates inconspicously around london my tool of choiced would be a dented transit, the choice for pursuing people down the motorway.... XR4I, Cossie or even dare I say it , a jam sandwiched Zed. I know that these are only two scenarios that police vehicles are expected to perform in, but I feel that our hard earned tax pennies would be better spent putting more, or better paid coppers on the beat, rather than flash motors and some "Community Support Officers" (talking of which, do they all have to pass the village idiot test before being issued a uniform? if they were good enough to be coppers, they would be coppers.FFS). Rant over :)

Give em all C reg Metro's I say! :D

agree with you jock, but i guess they've got different vehicles for different purposes. But it is a scandalous amount of money spent. If they had a guy who knows motors at the head of the traffic division, i'm sure a bit of discretion could be used.

Also, there must be a few garages around the country who make a massive profit from "servicing" these vehicles .

Irish cops certainly don't get these perks, they're stuck in old mondeos, 4x4's are nissan terrano's.

in my day they had bikes, but they knew everyones business,,,,then they give em hilman imps, WHY?? give me a blue flashing light 4 me z and a grand a week ill catch the foookers. :hyper:

american police dont **** around like ours

4.7 litre of pure power

watch the police camera programs on five with silver for presenting

"this man thought he could get away from the police

He was wrong"

police camera action,, dont that guy with a head that looks too big for his body piss ya off?? soooo bloody cockey, almost like you want to go out there and blow his and the entire LAPDs bloody doors off. :mac1:

deffo agree , up by my work there is a police compund and over time ive seen police marked escort cossie's , impreza's , x5's , m3's ...so they obviously like there fast cars as well as spending far too much on them, i also think its an image thing for them !!

That bloke is where they got the simsoms "i,m troy Mclerr" "you may have seen me such things as..." the way he talks about british chases is classic   "Essex...ham...shire!! EEnglend

hmm. think thats bad.. look what the italians got!!!

A Lamborghini Gallardo has been donated to the Italian State Police (Polizia di Stato) by Automobili Lamborghini SpA. The V10, 500 bhp 190 mph performance car has been liveried in the colours of the state police and includes a siren and flashing lights on the roof. This is the first time that a Lamborghini will be used by Italian police.

They can drive Ferraris for all I care as long as they catch *******s like they did.

They caught 4 people who tried to kill as meny people as they could qith bombs and you car bothered about what car they drive.

Firstly they would have deal with the car manufactures and will be paying nothing anywhere close to what we would pay per car. They would also be modified quite a lot.

The cant go driving round in old cars because, old cars are not as safe as new ones. Standard brake setup on a Z now is not as good as it would have been when it was brand new.

Those X5 would have been picked becuse, of their ability to carry other officers, space to put all of the quipment needed on a police vehicle, its speed, its power so it can take the extra weight of the quipment amongst other things.

Imagine the specials unit with 4 people in a kitted out transit van going chasing a car in a city. It would topple over first corner

The only consolation for us tax payers is that they do not pay anywhere near what the general public pay for the same vehicle.

some "Community Support Officers" (talking of which, do they all have to pass the village idiot test before being issued a uniform? if they were good enough to be coppers, they would be coppers.FFS). Rant over :)

AH! the old specials, LOL I know what you mean, respect for doing the paid job but doing it for free, errrr hello anyone at home! :D

Yep agree with the last couple of posts, manufacturers fall over each other trying to get forces to buy their cars because its great advertising, and because of this the police get the cars at a knock down price. the one you saw with leather is probably a demo motor, the manufacturers are always dishing these out and are usually a higher spec than the police end up buying.

regards the type of motors that are being used its horses for courses, specialist units need motors suitable for their needs. SO19 will need something big enough to carry them and their kit, get where ever they are going quickly and be able to cope with just about any terrain hence the X5.

do you want the whole of the UK police fleet being diesel focus's. FFS never mind terrorists armed robbers etc, even chavs in corsa's would out run them.

Believe it or not there are a lot of bad people out there and the police have a tough enough time without being critised all the time. to catch these guys they need the equipment that does the job so give it to them!!!!!

As long as they dont raise my tax to do it :D :D :D :D :D

CSO's get paid almost as much as a new police recruit!

lol what is it now? £1000 for 60 hrs sounds fine by me!!!!

Police Officer starts on £19,803 rising to £22,107 after initial training. PCSO's start £15,732 plus shift allowance. Not really a great deal for the grief they get. "Shouldn't you be out catching real criminals!"

Specials never used to did they? Anyway 15K for being a real copper is bad enough but a fake one? :D

I remember a great story from the early 90s about one countie's force being given a Lister Jag as their M-way patrol car to help catch serious speeders.

Only problem was, this 7 litre monster could barely mange 7mpg so poor PC Piglet couldn't actually chase anyone at over 70mph in case they ran out of fuel......

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Specials still don't get paid. They are different to PCSO's

no they dont get paid, they just get a £1000 allowance as long as they are on duty for a least 60hrs per year, not a bad hourly rate me thinks!!!
