crank angle sensor

Does anyone know how to test the crank angle sensor is faulty. I have run the ecu diag, code 11 which points to the sensor. I want to test it with another method before I shell out the money for a new one.

I've just bought the car driven it 60 miles! now the car won't fire up!!?? argghh

Sorry to hear about your troubles - so early on too..

Try this;

Mark the position of the crank angle sensor against the mounting plate it bolts to with a scribe or nail - make three marks preferrably. These need to be accurate - you'll use them to line the CAS back up with later.

Unbolt the three small bolts retaining the CAS, and withdraw it from the end of the cam.

With it still plugged into the loom, and the ignition at "on" (don't try and start the car though), slowly rotate the spindle of the CAS by hand. You should hear the injectors clicking.

If not, then there's no signal from the CAS..

However, that really only proves whether its the CAS *or* it's wiring - the only way to test the wiring would be to do a continuity test between the correct pins on the ECU and the plug that goes into the CAS.

The pins you want on the ECU connector are pin 50 (colour B), pin 51 (G/B), 52 (G/Y) and 59 (W).

If you want, I can send you the relevant wiring diagram by email..

I take it that you've checked that the connector isn't corroded, that often happens with the connectors near the front of the engine. Just a thought!

Thank god theres someone around to point out the obvious bits that I forget..

Yeah - check what Shaun said too! smile.gif

yeah checked the connector, seems in good nick, sprayed a bit of wd40 on it just in case. Yeah aaron if u could email me that diagram on mark.salem@landg.com, also what type of electrical tester would I need?
