I have a 91 TT Auto (Import) and am about to start modifying my car as it is currently stock.

I am looking at replacing my exhaust (standard one has a hole) and have looked at a company called BlueFlame http://www.blueflameperformance.com/ - Does anyone know what these exhausts are like? Any other recommendations?

I am also looking at replacing my Front & Rear Pads & Discs and have a few questions:

1). Any recommendations. Am thinking about Porterfields pads, not sure about the discs (will get Brembo in the future but don't have a fortune to spend this month).

2). Is it worth getting braided lines and any recommendations? how easy to fit?

3). I think the numpty that replaced my pads last time (with aftermarket ones that have lasted 3 months) has thrown away the Shims, will I need a new set?

4). Currently, there is a creak on the front left caliper when I apply the brakes, will this be solved if I clean the calipers etc?

5). What is the best way of doing a service on my brakes and replacing discs and pads, also going to paint the calipers red. I want to clean the calipers, make sure nothing is seased up, paint red, replace pads and discs and also bleed the brakes, replace fluid, and set them ready to go. Any special techniques, best way to bleed them. anything I should do / not do / leave alone. Anything I need to grease, wd40 etc.

Sorry for all the questions but want to do this right from the start.

Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know of any other Zeds in the Bromley/Beckenham area?

Cheers...

Rob

I think the best and first thing you should do is subscribe. Only 20 notes and all your questions will be answered.

hi,

theres many different aftermarket disc/pad combo's, a lot is down to personal preference (& cost!!)

braided lines are supposed to make a little difference.

probably the best thing to do (& may be your noise) is to get a caliper seal kit. the pistons are prone to siezing in the calipers. you will need to remove all the pistons, clean them & reassemble with new seals. makes a huuuuuuuuuge difference to braking!!!

James300 lives in beckenham & has a (now!) nice 2 tone zed! :)

oh - & go subscribe now!! :D

I'll subscribe......

What's the best brake fluid to use? Where do I get a new set of seals for the calipers from???

Cheers.

Blueflame make Mongoose which are a very good and quality product. If you buy the ones they sell on Ebay every now and then they look similar to Mongoose but I think they use better quality stainless steel.

If you go there for a custom exhaust, you can what ever style you like, but it would cost more.

AdamR had a Blueflame custom exhaust and he was very happy with it.

Its also only about 5 miles from where I live ;)

I'll subscribe......

How much you want to spend on brake fluid. Dot 4 is needed and infact better than 5.1.

I use Castrol RS Racing fluid. Its good for temperatures to 600ºC I think it said, and is infact a racing spec fluid. Wasted on my car really ;) But its very good but costs.

1). Any recommendations. Am thinking about Porterfields pads, not sure about the discs (will get Brembo in the future but don't have a fortune to spend this month). They sound good enough

2). Is it worth getting braided lines and any recommendations? how easy to fit? Yes it is. Talk to the traders, I think a few of them sell them, they are all good makes

3). I think the numpty that replaced my pads last time (with aftermarket ones that have lasted 3 months) has thrown away the Shims, will I need a new set? In theory they are not essential, in pracise, you should. It helps stop crap getting between the pads and discs

4). Currently, there is a creak on the front left caliper when I apply the brakes, will this be solved if I clean the calipers etc? Clean them up, grease the right places and torque the bolts back. If that doesnt work it should need more looking into.

copper grease, WD40, brake cleaner, wire brush, one man brake bleeding kit. To flush it out completely you will need about 2 litres of fluid (Well 1.5 but 2 to be safe.) Start with the furtest brake from the master cylinder, and bleed until fresh fluid comes through and work way forward. Dont forget the ABS solienoid in the boot of the car hidden under some panels.

Hope that helps
