Haha, that spooked me out! My regn is G*** YBU as well, only it's on a red shortie that wasn't at JAE :'(

Well I never....

Spooked me too! Mines the same reg as was Tooley's - both our cars are silver though. So how does that work then ... do all the cars that get imported at the same time end up with registration marks in sequence? I've now seen 5 Zeds with this registration but no other cars ... surely this can't be a coincidence ...

Dan

The three letters YBU. relate to the area in witch they were registered.

May be they all came in togeather...

Chris..

Yeh as Legrath said, that marcus said it's fitzy's

this could confuse a stupid person and before you lot say anything thats me f**ked then

But, as mrogers said, it's as Legrath said, that marcus said it's Fitzy's (or so he believes..).

I was trying to find out which licensing office the YBU is from, but it turns out that only the BU is a regional identifier (for Manchester! yay!). So the Y is part of the same unique serial number that the preceeding digits are - i.e. for G***YBU: G is the year, ***Y is the unique serial number, BU is the regional identifier for Manchester.

In other words, it's still a healthy coincidence that so many of us have the Y combined with the BU. I was expecting to find that they were all reg'd near Southampton docks or something, though... :S

I'm glad to have finally got round to finding out how the pre-2001 regional identifiers worked - as a kid I used to "collect" car regs, and it's something that's been bugging me. I am a sad person.

  • 2 months later...

It was mine. The paint is off a BMW. PM me if you still want the paint code
