car wont idle and runs crap, disconected the maf and idle is fine???????

This is doing my head in now, tried a second chip in the ecu still got a hunting idle when I disconect the maf it will idle fine! which would point to a faulty maf? although the conzult check come up with it being ok

Its def got wet as I have a dual apexi setup that sits near the vented nose pannel. I have taken the foam elements out and dried them I have dried the maf, put it all back in but the car still runs crap :headvswal :headvswal

any one had these symtoms that pointed towards the maf being buggered?

Suspect the MAF is knackered. Surpriesed it idles Ok with it off though, the limp settings are for 370cc!

Consult check only really checks the MAF circuit, not the calibration. Do you know what actual voltage was shown?

Best bet is to try and swap it out and see what happens.

if the MAF was not open or closed circuit then it would still be trying to read the bad signal, but uf its disconnected then it goes open circuit and ignores the signal altogether and goes to limp mode.

the MAF sounds like its goosed.

i had the same problem end of last year. sounds exectly the same but engine would flood after running for a while. eventually traced it to AN intermitantly working AFM. canged it and its been running fine since ....touch wood

Not sure of the reading but its strange as soon as its unplugged idles like a dream. When plugged in runs crap smells really ritch as if the maf is telling the ecu the car is flowing more air than actually is so its pumping more fuel in.

You can partially block the maf with your fingers and it will idle fine to?

going to try a known good maf and go from there. Any one know the differences from the import and uk maf???

cheers for your replys

Jap and Uk Maf are the same bud IIRC, i have just bought a spare as mine went on Sun coming back from JAE...:(:( got mine from a Skyline specalist near me, as they are the same Maf in them ;)

Im sure some one told me or I read some where that there was a difference in them, How much did you pay if you dont mind me asking

:x: £150 off a 6 yr old liner....

don't think the stock Skyline ones are the same, that's why they upgrade to ours.

Vijay

Not yet got them both together and seem exact same, have to fit it but p!ssing down at the mo so i aint getting wet again ;)

:D right , all fitted and she going like a dream  as for the Skyline Maf its the same part number as ours so theres another source for them there ;)

conzult only comes up with fault if the readings from the maf are outr of bounds, its prob corroded connector (durite 4 pin connector £5) or could be the maf, if its bad idle its prob a slightly out reading from the maf which is caused by electrical resistance in the corroded connector which will not match with the readings from tps so the ecu will get confused and wont know how much fuel to supply to set amount of air. hence when maf disconnected its only getting an idea of airflow from how open the throttle bodies are (tps) but with it connected it will get one air reading from afm and another from tps and it wont mathmatically add up.

Tried a known good Maf today (cheers mike groves) and she still ran the same so its def not the MAF! what I cant work out is why the car runs perfect when the maf is disconected

Long shot, but if you've just had the injectors changed, are you sure an o-ring isn't passing?

Try a power balance test on conzult and see if you can narrow it down to a specific cyl.

Are your injectors definately 555's?!

Saying that when I spoke to scott and he said when the car was plugged into the conzult it showed up as 520's/530 injectors they came in the nismo box's and had the purple/blue caps on them so Im guessing they are genuine + they was bought from a known member from here. Although im sure a mate told me that over time injectors loose there flow and produce different readings?

I will ask him if he done the power balence test and what it showed.

Also could it be a dodgey ECU possibly reading the wrong signals?
