Metallic noise mystery.

Well boys,

have found out the mystery behind the metallic rotary noise!

Either Lymon or WillieO has got it right.

I was cruising at about 35mph on Saturday and stopped at some lights, put foot down and car crawled away really slowly, luckily I was only 2 minutes from home, then the car just got slower and slower til I was forced to stop. Turned engine off for about a minute then popped it into drive for the slow but short ride home.

So boys what do you think it is, the torque convertor or the auto box? hopefully it is one or the other and not both.

How much am I looking at to fix it,and does anybody have any spares i could buy?

HELP!!

Sorry about your predicament. I would rather have been wrong! I've been there too. Not sure what goes wrong but I suspect the whirring noise is the autobox oil pump breaking up or clutch debris fouling things. Then bits go through the oil system and a possibility is the bits clog up the oil pick up strainer blocking oil flow and then drive. By switching off a while the bits fall away and you then get drive again for a short while. I think you are left with a total box rebuild at serious cost or a 2nd hand one. Rebuilds seem to be from £1500 and up. I was lucky to find a 2nd hand one that had just been rebuilt at serious cost the year before. The boxes are same for import or UK the box ecu on the car makes the different control options. I dont think the torque converter escapes either because the debris bits can trap in the vanes and cause out of balance. I seem to remember an engine vibration around 3000rpm that disappeared when I got another box.

Fook me, thats expensive.

Thanks for that, it explains a lot, I am going to have to sit tight and see what pops its head up on the forum, you never know I could be lucky, if you could call it lucky.

Anyone got an autobox with torque convertor for sale?

HELP PLEASE!!
