Thankyou Guy's for Hijacking my Post!!! Can i actually have it back Now? or shall i start a new thread??? You could help me out here if you want???:p

well it depends how anal you want to be, you could just have a standard re-spray and in the engine bay have a fade in on the panels you can see. or you can go the whole hog and have the engine bay stripped and cleaned then painted.

im having the door cards removed and the door rears painted too, and every other bit done that can be got to, the engine bay will have a fade in for now, but the underside of the bonnet will be sprayed..

you need to decide what sort of price you want to spend and how you want the car too look and where..

a good starting place would be steve at bodywork plus for a rough quote on what you want, but if its removeable and can be painted behind or in he will do it.. top job by a top bloke.

I wil be doing it myself Mate! I am just in the middle of preparation at the moment and will be applying 2K primer soon after i've taken any defect's out of the body.

Just deciding on changing colour or staying stock!! i know what will be less work but it's not alway's about that is it!

only problem with doin it urself is that you become more and more picky about things and before you know it youve painted everything!! lol.

colours upto you in the end, but make it ur own.. thats what i say do something unique and different..

Totally Agree there mate :)

if i go with a pearl or metalic again i have the added concern of alway's having to worry about matching up panel's in the case of any bump's or scrape's.

Standard paint is easier to match but can be too basic and flat!!

Could alway's have a bright plain colour but add a laquer afterward's as well, that will give it extra protection and make it real glossy :p

Look's good mate!! you say you did your's or you had the work done by someone else?

I did all the prep work myself at night and my mate sprayed it during the day.

BLoody hard work as well. :(

Did you do it by hand with block and paper of did you use an Air Sander?

All by hand its the only way to see all the small dents made by octinagarian dribbelies and their shopping carts. :smash:

or you could get one of those really nice pearled laquers...

I used PPG its a bit more expensive but worth it.

My mate who sprays cars for a living had never used it before and reckons its brilliant.Especialy the laquer.

MMMM! sound's interesting!

yep the ppg paints are fine and the laquers, if any of the lambo colours take your fancy i can give you the ppg paint codes.

the first code found on the car itself, the name and the PPG code are in the third and fourth colomn.

With these codes you can obtain the correct paint from your local dealer, it is even possible to obtain spray cans with the color ready to use.

Color sample Code on car Color name PPG Code

Very Helpful Mate !! Thank's for taking the time to post this info ;)

Will keep this for future referance :D

Im in the process of changing mine from red to white. I took the stonechip off using a rotary sander, on the metal it was easy but the stonehip on the bumpers is a right bitch, I found out they actually mould it with that horrible finish so I had to go through the paint and resurface the plastic underneath. For the rest of the outside I sanded it purely by hand, I found using a block would only sand little strips so I used bare hands and sandpaper- which gave me much better coverage.

I took the bumpers and wings off so I could get into the joins and spray them properly then once that was done I could put them back and spray the whole lot in situ.

Also I did the shuts and targas with cans, I used a car tarpaulin to make a barrier to protect the interior. The only thing I've left is the engine bay.

I don't know anything about filler brands, I just buy anything that has 'filler' on the label. The cracking on my front bumper is so bad that I can't decide whether to patch it up with cellulose stopper or just buy another, the previous owner put the paint on so thick that stonechips look more like bulletholes. The back bumper is just a joke- the stonechip took ages but the smooth stuff I was able to blast off using an ordinary garden hose, I'm not sure any prep work was done at all.

If you going to pay out for filler alway's pay abit more and get a decent one!!

I used plastic padding elastic filler in the past which is less prone to cracking but harder to sand.

The last thing you want is the filler cracking or falling out so avoid the cheap one's ;)

Cellulose stopper help fill in minor defect's without using filler. it's like a paste and drie's quickly..easy to use. :)

If you're going from dark blue to a brighter colour, I'd definately do the front wing returns, (into the engine bay), inside the doors and door shuts, boot shut etc.

Shouldn't worry too much about colour matching, there are very few colours that can't be matched if you're good, and the mixer is good, (thats the difficult part!), even custom paints can be matched.

Still undecided into what colour will look good on my zed!! What colour's do look good and make the zed's line's and curve's really stand out?

I had mine done about 2 years ago now.

Doors, boot and bonnet off. All glass out and cards removed, but I didn't have the engine bay done then. Had that done later while engine rebuilt was taking place. Though the engine bay looks as good as a factory finish I wasn't that impressed. Unlike the rest of the car that was done at a different /proper body shop. The finish is superb and every one that see her in the flesh just keeps going on about how smooth the finish is.

Unfortunatly though the front wings need repainting do to Garage not taking the apropriate care when reinstaling the engine.
