I noticed a few on here have rather small front plates, do you have any probs with police getting stopped a lot? I was thinkin of gettin one but unsure of whether it could be more hassle than it's worth due to gettin fines etc.

Although not as small as some, it is a lot smaller than legal and Had mine on for about 8 months, not been stopped once and have driven past plenty of police.

I have a smaller plate on my '99 spec front bumper and have had no probs with PC Piglet or the MOT testers.

Mine is the standard depth though, with normal size lettering. It is just shorter so it fits on the raised bit of the bumper. I only have 5 characters in the reg number, hence it all fits perfectly.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I was thinkin of 9in x 3in which is pretty small but standard letter font which would be obviously smaller than norm.

I want Jap style plates for both my cars.

Mine is rather small too but no probs yet and the old bill are always eyeballing me in the ZED. And my lettering is a bit suspect too. Depends what the police are like in your area i spose?

Obviously non standard text, size, etc is illegal and could get you a £30 fine but you only tend to get stopped by police travelling behind you and as a result they don't see the front. Furthermore most police wont turn around to stop someone for such a minor traffic offence so although I don't advise it you will probably get away with a non standard front plate for far longer than a rear one.

Also getting a fine would be unlucky unless of course you are stopped in West Midlands force area, policy is to issue a fixed penalty notice ie £30.

Most police would tell you off and advise you to change it. The next step would be to issue you a VDRS (Vehicle defect rectification scheme) this gives you 14 days to rectify the fault and get it stamped by MOT statiion and send to ticket office and as long you comply there will be no further action.

However if they do stop you and find too many faults it may be a summons for court.

Finally if you have got a personalised plate then repeat offences and a diligent police officer could inform DVLA and it is possible after 2-3 times for DVLA to withdraw plate!

mine is tiny police stopped me at least 5times have not mentioned it once, officer my 99spec bumper is made for a smaller plate and its an import :xxx:

I have quite a small one!! :o

Never had a rollocking yet :D

As I said most would at the most say get it changed or if I stop you again you'll get a ticket.

Chunks is slightly smaller than as defined in highway code, plus the spacing is illegal but I doubt it would upset the average police officer. I can also see this is being pedantic but Chunk's plate is not displaying the BS145a mark - a requirement for reflectivity however his plate is shaped and may have been removed. Like I said depends on the police officer.

That almost looks legal, numbers look a bit skinny, don't think average police officer would bat an eyelid.

Looks like your plate is small too Chunk

But again I doubt a police officer would take much notice of Chunk's. You'll find attention is drawn when people have fancy, illegible text, or put screw caps in different colours to make letters and numbers read different.

Looks like your plate is small too Chunk

nahhhhhh!!

This is how id like it....

That would probaly get you in trouble Chunk, just because of the altered 3 but at the end of the day we all know of you on here, know your name and know what your plate is meant to read and that is my feelings on personalised plates - as long as it means something to you and friends and family understand it then money well spent.

Im not actually gonna do that, but if i did get it made, it would most certainly be only for show use..................Officer ;) LOL!

I'll be honest I think mine is smaller nad well and truly illegally spaced but who cares, "you pay ya money and take ya chance" lifes a game!

Never been pullled for mine as yet....;) they dont seem to pull cars like ours unless you doing some thing drasticaly wrong......:x:

Sgt C, yours is only slightly italic and non standard text but still easily read. You're quite right as well, would have to do something really wrong.

Mines mis spaced, cut down and has an illegal typeface 9 cos it is straight and doesnt hook under like it should.

Ive had a £30 fine and one sh1tty letter from dvla threatening to withdraw the plate, not bad in 7 years of owning the plate.

Back one is all legal so it shows im making an effort!!

Never been stopped, not for the number plate or anything else, like Sarge said, they just don't seem to pull the Zeds over...

Maybe because they know if one of us decides to make a run for it they'd have no chance? (haha) :p

Would I be at risk with Japanese plates?
