Zed Values and Autotrader.co.uk

Folks, It is my theory 'average condition' Zeds are falling rapidly in price and getting affordable to the plebs as Supra mk3's did a few years ago (no dissrespect Tim wink.gif )...it therefore follows that more and more of these cars are falling into un-appreciating hands and ending up fooked.. Obviously these prices have a knock-on effect on the prices sought by owners of decent cars who are selling (along with the import situation).. but I reckon that as more and more Z32's get wasted the price of well-looked after examples will actually rise as the bad ones die and end up scrapped (they are getting on abit now!) - there will be a point that the resale value will go so low that importing whats left in Japan will be not cost effective for the dealers and whats left on Autotrader et-al will be so shagged as not worth buying, whats left will be the well looked after stuff we all have and we will be able to name our prices should we sell!! what do you think?? do you think a good 300zx is going to become that rare as to become even more sought after..?

Im waffling...this always happens when I smoke LMAO smile.gif!

PeaceV

But to quote from my friend

"you get a lot of car for your money"

My was £4500, engine is superb, bit of body work needed. But I cant find any car that has as much, cumfort, style, power and all the mod cons like, ABS, Powersteering, Air con, electric windows mirrors Seat for £4500

Glen mate dont believe all you read in papers and mags as most of it is crap biggrin.gif LOL!

I was looking on Auto Trader last night aswell mate!

Scarey, you can get a G/H plater now for about 3K...WTF?

However, this is all in perspective and in someways a good thing. Coz next year I want summat else to play with. Probably keep the Z for something like storing tools in or maybe as a new rabbit hutch etc. ROFL biggrin.gif

But seriously, GTO's are nice and you can get a nice one of them for about 4/5K. RX-7's seem to be holding their value like the Soups, god knows why though?!?!?!?!? They are a stunning car but reliability is arse, rotary needs a major rebuild around the 100K mark and that's if you're lucky enough to get that far!!!

For all those that think that good ones will always fetch top prices? Don't kid yourselves! As soon as the 350Z is launched the overall used prices for our cars will plummet even further. That's basically what happened to the Mk III Soup, as soon as the new Mk IV was released all Mk III values dropped like a stone and same will happen with our cars wink.gif

Fact of life!

IMHO of course wink.gif

nah i disagree timmy (theres a suprise)

i think a z32 shape will hold its value after the launch just as the orginal 240 is a dream car for many and good condition ones still fetch big money.

i never baught this car thinking of the value i baught it cause i like it.

As I said the other day boys, prices are through the floor and I got dissed about they are all shit, etc.

Yes, there are a lot of dogs out there, but prices have still plumetted.

I bought my Z in 1998. 1989 import for 12K (over priced then by about 1-2K but had all jap service history and little things like flares, owners manual in leather cover, t-top bags, etc.. clearly a nice motor).

Now its worth nowt.

Now I suppose I'm just sore, because previosly I had an old 87 MR2, which I bought in 94 for 4.5K and sold in 98 for 4.5K.

I figured the Z would be the same.. surely it wouldn't loose much cash.

At the time I was looking at a Z or an NSX.

90 NSXs were going for 18-20K, and a good Z manual TT for 10-12K (no difference price wise whether import or UK).

3 years on, my Z is worth somewhere between 30 and 50% of what I paid, and the NSX (I could have won.....) is still worth around the same.

As Senna says, the problem is that now every piece of no good schemie scum can afford it.

So now, whereas there used to be 3 Zs in the whole of Ipswich, there are now prob 20+... christ my neighbour 3 doors down has some shitty jap import shed Z.

Sure, a good one will still make cash, but it still drives prices into the floor. Folk are greedy, they take risks. You can tell someone it's a belter, but they won't give ypu twice as much for it as a shed... it's the sort of folk that are buying the things now. Kinda pisses me off a bit.... well a fickload to be honest.

Saying that, I've had it 3 years. It's now prob. worth between 5-6K. There is not another car on the planet that I'd want for 3X that, never mind 6K. So I'll be keeping my Z for a long time yet.

As some of you'll know, Ive been doing up a Saab 9000 I got. Now its all souped up with its 17s, 500W rms stereo, lowered, etc, etc.

I was going to drive it up the 500 miles to scotland for xmas...

1. to show it to mates, etc

2. more space for pressies

3. dont care so much about salt on road.

4. easier to drive in snow.

So been driving just the saab for last 3 days to check its reliable.

So, got back in the Z today.

WTF was I thinking !!!!!

Fuck the Saab. The 300 has been grinning from ear to ear as I tail slide through the first round about.

Man, what a car :-)

stu

yes the price means that the z is now owned by some fuckwits but just like the original cossies etc these people will soon move on and the Z will become a bit more exclusive again owned by the serious enthusiast.

Funnily enough, I was talking to someone on Messenger about just this the other day.

Please don't let 'our' cars go the way of the MkIII Supra, that would be such a shame frown.gif

What does strike me is that we all compare and moan about insurance for our beloved Zs, now, if the purchase price is £3K what is the chance that a 19yr old is actually gonna stump up £1K+ for insurance? Answer, not a rats chance. not when the UK courts dole out £400-£500 fines for driving without insurance. This sux big time.

If the Z begins to get the reputation as a W****r mobile, its in Autotrader as quick as you like, regardless of how much fun it is. I'll then dole out the cash on a motor of ilk, without the stigma, TVR, Lotus, Marcos etc.

Sorry guys, that's just the way I see it.

T

this is all somethign i fail to understand. So you guys baught your cars for streetcred or value ????

i baught my car because that was the very car i wanted to own. Not because i could get it cheaper than this or that. Maby thats the difference i am an enthusiast about it, i love my zed and nothign will change that thaught. no matter who buys them. i mean tinky baught one wink.gif you dont see me going oohhh god im selling so i dont have to communicate with him ?

Wazza m8,

Don't get me wrong,I love my Z, it would have to reach a real low for me to sell my Z because of other people.

Believe me m8 I'm as much of a car enthusiast as you, even though I don't plough as much money into it, if I had the funds I probally would. biggrin.gif

No one here bought a Z for its residual value, FFS even if the prices half in our ownership period it's still less than the depreciation of a new Renault eurobox over a 2yr period, or a 7 series BMW the minute it leaves the dealers forecourt.

Did I buy my Z for streetcred? Probabally a bit yes, but I bet that most people on here love the exclusivity that Z ownership brings.

I think we're safe. My brother is a Max power boy. He has spent more money on his ford KA 'power upgrades' than I bought my RX-7 for. Max power readers don't have the balls to by a ten year old car with 300BHP. They would much rather buy an escort 1.3 calipso and glue gun a RS2000 whale tail on the back.

Read an issue of Max power. They never talk about big japs like cars you could own. It's a bit like bugatis on top gear. The only jap car they get exited about is Civics with renault 5 body kits.

Phil. (Takes roundabouts backwards)

Does anyone know why the prices on Z's are so depressed while on an NSX or Supra they are holding up?

Its a fantastic car, much better looking than supra or NZX, its fast etc etc. In Evo it says FOR: best nissan drivers car bar the skyline. AGAINST: not much.

Is it the Nissan badge? What has the world got against them? Beats me!

I think what it is there are some real crap ones out there that wont last so long. People are going to them and buying a car that wont last too long for very little, this then causes good con Z owners to lower there price to be able to compete.

If these people knew what condition there car is in when they buy it cheap, they wouldnt get it.

All we can do is sit here and watch, hopfully when these crap ones are phased out and only good ones are left, the value may go back up.

Stuart

Doesnt look like any of you will have enough left from the sale of your cars to buy an Audi TT then! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Peace biggrin.gif

its probably just an age thing really.

Did a search for 'TT' and came up with several Nissan 300TT sites including this one.Oh well must go biggrin.gif

There are several cars that I would want before I was forced to buy a Audi TT wink.gif

howdy you said it muwhahahahaha obviously the more popular of the two.

Has anyone seen a audi tt webboard. Muwhahahahahaha no wonder people search for somethind else.
