My ZED has let me down. ANY one interested make me a sensible offers

Driving along to Stafford today when suddenly this happened :( Pulled away from traffic lights very fast to destroy a boy racer in his bmw , slowed back down and then a whining noise at around 3k started , sounds as if a gasket has blown somewhere or a hose has come off , I have now lost all boost unless I can get it over a certain rev range then the boost kicks in , , Any ideas before I have to sell her very cheap. The whine by the way seem to come from the drivers side around the turbo, I put my ear close today but then it got very hot in there so had to pull out :( I cannot afford to put it in a garage and Iv only just brought the dam thing 4 weeks ago. IF NOBODY HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS ,then the car is already up on ebay #4562823302 , due to me needing a new runabout for net week to go work and back in and cash is needed fast , If any body wants to come and look at her and make me a decent enough offer then they are welcome too .

Why do people not make provision when buying a car, I mean do people honestly think a 300bhp 15 year old car will be trouble free and not require some work???

Sorry to hear about your problems mate, but a lesson learnt???? :smash:

id advise at least 2k aside for any problems with a 15 year old TT SPORTS CAR

sorry to hear of your probs, try not to think the worst although you need to get it looked at could just be an actuator hose or something, have to agree with nick though

dont throw it all away mate just cos of a relatively small problem. loads of times ive been this close to just selling it but i stuck with it and it still makes me smile. bless it.

My boss was the last owner and run the car around for over 2 years trouble free , He offered it me for around the amount I could raise due to him needing a transit van for work , so with it been reliable for him I brought it off him , Iv had it for no longer than 4 weeks and have not had any problems other than a few niggles . I understand the car is old and it needs maintaining but this is something I cannot see without the engine out . I just wish I never got rid of my 200 sx now , at least I could change the turbo on that without removing the engine. Has any body got any ideas on where the main leak points are or if it needs a turbo replacing can it be done without removing the engine ?

No its not worth the trouble

Tweaty, at best it may be a simple case of a pipe dislodged, favorites are the inter-cooler pipes behind the bumper and the turbo pipes under the big outer pipes under the bonnet.

The easiest way to track down the problem is a leak tester, this will determine if it is a simple problem or not. Failing that to help trace the leak ( assuming there is one) try removing one of the throttle intake pipes and then start the engine, rev the engine while holding your hand over the pipe from the inter-cooler, you should feel some boost from the turbo that side.

Whatever the result refit the pipe and do the same the other side, at least this will help you nail it down to one particular side or the worst is a turbo.

Where about are you in Staffordshire ? if you can not get it sorted, come down the workshop and will run a quick boost leak check and diagnostic to help your make a better decision.

intercoler pipe.....most definately .... i had the same exact thing happen ........except i totaly embarrased a merc slk compressor drive in front of his bimbo passenger ..........before mine blew off :))))

cheers for the help guys , I will leave it on ebay anyway but hopefully i wil be able to fix the problems before the auction ends assuming people will bid , It deffo feels like a boost leak . Some one metioned big end bearings but surely if they were shot I would still get boost as usual but with llots of clunking noises ?

Had a guy have a quick look over her this morning , he says the drivers side turbo bearing is causing the noise along with a blowing turbo gasket. How hard is it to remove the engine and refit another turbo , I need to either fix this problem or get rid of her to fork out on another car too get me work and back . I know I am not a suscibed member yet but If any of you want a cheap zed to fix then I am happy to take offers on her aound £1200 which is half the price I paid for her . Alternativly , if some one can offer the cheap labour costs and a spare working turbo at a low cost including fitting then I will keep her.

Took me a morning the first time I lifted the engine. No prior car mechanic experience! Main problem is all the things that don't seem to have a place when you put it back together!! Changing the turbos once the engine is out is easy (and gaskets). Is there any smoke? by the way. Bottom end went on my last one, had no power after.

yes there is smoke comming from the drivers side exhaust after about 10 - 15 mins on idle - none out of the left had passenger side , Iv had a read through the faq on how to reve the engine which seems pretty stratight forward but the last engine i removed was froma gt5 turbo by hand :) and not as many plugs and bost hoses.

Do you not have to repair or replace the turbos as a pair on the Z32?

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Not particuarly, its just that if one has gone the other could be on the way (70-80k is common time)

No Richard, but it is highly adviseable due to the ballache of having to remove the engine again....

Hi mate

Outside the car looks fairly standard, apart from the wheels, brakes, exhausts and it sitting lower than normal. Not sure whether you caught my other post but the head gasket has gone on my Zed so that stopped production on it, ie. paintwork, leather till thats sorted. So the pics dont relate the amount of work thats gone into the car.

Heres a link to the last lot i got though.....
