I dont even know wot it does...lol...I am a mechanical duffus....sorry...

Hmm,, could be. Had you just washed the car? Could have been a wet air filter/sensor?

If you have a series 1 PTU might as well upgrade if you have the money to a series 2 cos it will go one day and garentee it will be at the worst time.

Good point i had just washed her hopefully the reason! How much and where could i get a series 2 PTU and does it fit directly on?

MJP in the traders area. Around the £200 mark IIRC.

Yup his series 2's come with an adaptor harness so it just swaps right over.

Also its more likely to be a wet MAF or filter as the PTU normaly fails when the car is hot, will just die and then not start rather than not start from cold.

ptu amplifies the power for the spark plugs and distributes it to the plugs, works in conjuction with the cas (crank angle sensor) to decide when to spark, 300zx version of distributer and rotar arm! could be either, ptu is on left looking from frot and cas on right of cam belt cover, connector (4pin) for cas available from durite through most auto electrics places.
