Right - with petrol prices on the rise and the local Optimax being far too far away (costs me nearly a tenner just to get there and back), Ive put std unleaded in from my local tesco.

 

Now I remember lots of debates about optimax being the best (and I know a blown engine is not worth it), but Im running 14psi boost, chipped up etc, and I cant hear any detonation on unleaded?

 

I know what det sounds like coz I had it when I accidentally knocked my boost controller up to 18 psi :)

 

If Im not driving it too hard most of the time - Im presuming normal unleaded is ok?

 

Is anyone else whos boosted up out there runnning normal unleaded? or super even?

In the Summer always use Optimax, or for dyno days, rest of the time I use regular unleaded, but my car was mapped for that.

I dont put anything other than optimax in. My foots too heavy to risk it. I'd imagine that over time you'd get wear in the engine even if you don't hear det. I dont think your zed will like it unless you get it specifically mapped to run on lower octane fuel like Andys.

I guess that if you are running very good cooling equipment such as decent intercoolers and the like then you'd be able to avoid det more.

By the way whats the score with the engine phot on your ride profile?

I notice JD did you chip..was it mapped for Optimax ?

 

Do you have experience with hearing detonation ?

 

Your more likely to get detonation in higher gears, low revs, full boost.

 

Good news though - Soon your local tesco's will be stocking 99ron fuel

oh - forgot to delete it - it was the wifes 200sx I was hosting a pic for someone.

 

as for petrol - Tesco will hopefully pull its finger out.

 

I donty know if JD mapped it for optimax - I will get in touch with him :)

I use optimax always, if i get caught short i have a splash and dash of ultimate or the new total sh1te, ill try the tesco when it eventually gets here.
