Any idea why my turbo gauge is sitting only just under the halfway point when idleing and driving normally?

Its a uk car and when I bought it I was told that it should sit there but now I know it shouldn't and should be on -14 psi. Is it a turbo problem or could it be something else?

Cheers GLENN

Could be a seized turbo, but could equally be a split/disconnected/kinked pipe around the boost sender somewhere.

Thanks guys. Yes Mac when I boot it the gauge does go up to just under the 7+ mark.

It's been like it since I had the car which is about 3 months and the guy before me says it had always been like it and he had it for 2 and a half years. Is it likely that it could just be a boost sender pipe? If it was a seized turbo wouldn't that effect the performance?

if your only hitting plus 7 on the turbo gauge sounds like safty boost shame u never said sunday i could have put my datascan on yours and checked it for you i had boost probs and it turned out the det sensor/vts wires were reversed also if i tapped my gauge it went down as it was sticking in same place

The small piping to the turbo gauge sensor has got mixed up with an adjacent pipe on the side of the plenum.

The gauge sender is now incorrectly plumbed into the wrong side of the throttle plate

( i.e. closed from the plenum) hence the odd reading at idle but + 7 boost reading when flooring it.

This is very, very common and have seen it many times, often caused by all the pipes been removed at the same time and them getting mixed up when re-assembled.

Correct the pipe work by copying someone else`s car ( assuming theirs is correct) if you not sure where they go, as a bonus you will find that when correctly plumbed in the car will run a bit better because obviously other pipes are in the wrong place too.

If you can not work it out I have my own diagram that I can fax or mail to you if required.

For the information of members, as I have said this is very common, so much so that every single zed I deal with now is checked as a matter of course, an assortment of odd light throttle / hesitance problems can often be traced to mixed up pipes.
