Hi there

I'm a bit new to this forum so bear with me.

I've had my TT a few months and its been fine. The other day it developed some kind leak from the driver side of the radiator and the temp gauge immediately start to rise. I stopped and turned the engine off, had a look under bonnet but couldnt see exactly where it was coming from - there isnt much elbow room under there.

I let it cool down for a bit and then managed to get it home with a couple more stops on the way.

Can anyone recommend a ZX mechanic in the NW london area? I could try taking it to some local garage but I thought it would be best to find a specialist.

Cheers

Griff

i think he is bud !!

Well you'll be a little stuck to find a Z specialist around here - what ever you do, don't take it to the Nissan delaers, they're not exactly clued up. I do have a Z mechanic but he won't touch anyones anymore, just his and mine :( Your nearest specialist would be Mark - Zen in S.London as mentioned above.

I don't mind helping if I can, you've got to find out where the water is coming from - how much water is it loosing? I live near the Hendon Way, so not too far from you at all :)

Vijay

Its not losing much water - it could just be a hole in a hose somewhere i guess.

Some advise would be good - if its a simple leak or maybe a new radiator. I tried Zen but no answer yet.

My home number is 0208 960 5600 give me a shout and i could drive round to yours sometime?

Just like what happened to me the other day...

Just bought a '90 TT and was driving home and pulled into a garage to get some petrol. Which was quite lucky really as when I stopped I noticed alot of steam coming from the engine. temp read ok though.

The engine was also idleing very unevenly up and down between 500rpm and 1500rpm. Parked up and had a look under the bonnet. I was greeted by a plume of steam coming from the back of the engine bay. when I checked the water it was basically empty!

I left it to cool and then topped her up. The car ran fine again and idled smoothly. I too had the tapping which I believe is from overheating the oil etc. And I think the gauge read ok cos the little water I had in there was getting pumped round while i was moving.. but when I stopped it got hot very quick!

Anyway the leak seems to be at the back of the engine bay by the battery on the passenger side. I cant quite pin point it though. Im just crossing my fingers and hoping its not expensive! There also seems to be deposits from the additive in the cooling water left on the engine so it looks like its under a bit of pressure because its everywhere. Thing is Im not losing water all the time it seems to be intermittent! I hope you can help me out too!

Most common leak from that area is the turbo coolant hose that runs up the back of the engine , small hose approx 3 inches long and real fun to change :(
