I was wondering...........what could I do to my rear lights short term, low budget until I finally decided on what I want them to look like. Then I thought - window tint - i'll black them out.

Bought the tint, cleaned the lights began applying tint.....what a nightmare, creases, bubbles, wouldn't stick around rear fogs!

Finally got it done, looking good. White car all lights black.

I turned the lights on, oh dear where are they LOL. You could barely see them. Ripped it off and n ow I'm back to square one, standard lights.

I'll wait now till i've got the money and decided on which set.

The correct way to tint rear lights is clear lacquer with a splash of black paint,PPS done mine years ago but then I changed to 99 spec.

You can buy spray-on tint for glass and plastic? Especially for that job?

Yes you can however it is a total twat to get a nice finish,ChrisC done his and I have never seen such a mess. :wack:

I do agree with you macca. I did the whole lot of windows in a Jag a good few years back. Your idea with the black paint and plenty of laquer sounds good too. But YAMMPIE? window tint film? that sounded like a nightmare before you started Bud. I wonder if they do Black Bulbs......

I saw window tint spray on Ebay but that sounds like a nightmare for even coats etc and and if you don't like it once it's on, you're fooked!

The Z centre are doing a couple of diffent cheaper rear light set up's now. But still £170. (ish)

The Foliatec tint spray from Halfords etc is fine but I couldnt be arsed taking the lights off the car to spray them laid out flat!

Result:- runs and streaks!

You will then usually have to put brighter bulbs in too.

We,ve just had a punto in our garage and he,d tinted his rear lights by wrapping a pair of tights around em :xxx: :nono: As you can guess they looked crap

The key to tinting yuor rear lights is as said proper light tint AND PATIENCE if you prime lights first with p2000 just to get adhesion dont go mad then put light coats on SLOWLY 10mins between coats and just stop at the tint depth you want. Dont worry too much about small streaks caus after 48hrs you can cut them out with the same p2000 paper and then tcut them JOBS A GOOD UN :hyper: ;)
