London gets the 2012 Olympic Games!!

Well done London!

It is fantstic news! We'll be paying for it for years...

As much as I like France and I like the French...'Jacque Chirac, EAT 5HIT'..for the 'ghey' comments you've made about the UK lately!!!

Well, I'm excited! My daughter was born on 20/12 last year, which means she's an Olympic baby. Any child born on that day will be invited to take part in one of the ceremonies at the Olympics! :D

If Machester and the Commonwealth games is anything to go by, I'll have much nicer roads to drive on instead of the pot-hole ridden cr*p we got now. :D :D

p.s. i don't understand the negativity about the olympics coming here. Surely it's a desiriable thing as all the major cities in the world seem to want it? Or do they all just want to throw money into black hole?

hehehehe...we beat the French.....yeehaaaa...

It will transform East London......for the good!

It changed a shitty part of Manchester and gave the city some superb facilities, many of which helped our gold medalists in the last Olympics.

PMSL :D

Cool does that mean that the East End will get flattened so that we can start again? Get rid of all the Kat Slaters and their flabby bingo wings? Sounds like a plan to me! Large!!!

don't worry, we've subbed it out to india :D

i think its good news, at least England got something for once lol

I think it has something to do with the amount of taxpayers money that’s going to be thrown at this event could well go towards better causes. The hassle it’s going to give the residents of London/surrounding areas is also going to be considerable.

I bet Ken Livingston who's responsible for the congestion charge is rubbing his hands with glee. Think of all those extra visitors no doubt having to pay congestion charges.

Just a generalisation, I think it will be a nice thing to have really, although I'm sure the UK tax payer will be footing the bill.

Look what's happened to Athens. The area gets virtually no use, whether that's to do with miss management is another story, but Greece will be paying for the Olympics for the next 12 years.

On the plus side, it'll draw loads of tourists in to the UK which can only be good.

I'm so pleased that we won it, Chirac deserves the defeat for being such a British hating un-diplomatic :xxx:

Ok so we get the Olympics at what cost to the tax payer? Then they say what about all the tourists that will come. So how do we get our money back from them? The government wont put anything back into health and education or road transport or anything that the money would have otherwise paid for. Maybe I'm wrong but I say.....

Fook the Olympics who needs it. :xxx:

REMEMBER THE MILLENIUM DOME?

FOOOOOOKINGGGG GREAT

Whooo Hooooooo

I'm going to the Olympics Im going to the Olympics

My sentiments entirely. The money would be much better spent improving our failing services instead of this. And if the traffic wasnt bad enough in London already then they add this in!! I am so glad I dont live down south!

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

London Olympics 2012 - yeeha

Sorry, don't see the logic in 'Tax payer' getting a burden.

1) Tax payer pays money towards running the country.

2) Thousands of new jobs and houses created and the london 'fixed up'. Result: more vibrat economy and therfore more money for the country.

3) Thousands of people come to the country to spend millions. Result: money coming in to the country.

4) London's profile raised even higher internationally, tourism is given a boost (possibly for many years), which means more money for the country.

5) Sport given a much needed boost.

6) We can actually got to the Olympic Events with ease!!! :D

Which ever way you look at it, the country gets more money as a result. Which means richer country, which means less tax / better services (in theory :D ).

Why do people have to look at things so negatively, nothing this exciting and internationally huge has happened in London (and possibly the UK) in years, and definately not in my lifetime.

Enjoy it!

I must admit I am looking forward to viewing a lot of events, I am glued to the telly during the olympics now I can actually be a spectator :)

The thing is it is gonna cost us money and the money that will be recouped will be by business and government but no change there, but we ain't gonna change it now so we might as well enjoy it :)

WHOOP DE FOOKIN DO !!..... no it wont bring money into the country it will be a bottomless pit of eating money and resources up which would go to better use elsewhere have we forgotten the millenium dome oh sorry the money pit dome !!! We are going to have to police it at the taxpayers cost then there will be the bomb threats and all that goes with it. the roads will have to be upgraded (which is a good thing ) but the cost of living will sky rocket the price of everything will go up either because traders will want to cash in or the government will, not only on the influx of foreigners but on british people. Lets see now back through history what has ever come in on budget, euro tunnel, NO, the dome, NO, the only people to benifit from this are the british athletes who,s track record isnt that good...... so when it comes to petrol going up to £15.00 a gallon and road tax going up to £800.00 for my zed and my council tax blah blah blah need i go on, so that i can watch us fail as a country AGAIN!!! do you know what NO THANKS

And we get money from all the african marathon runners when the go past the speed camera's not knowing wht they are lol.

As someone who is not a lover of sport, the olympics doesnt bother me. What does bother me is the bunch of tosspots we have in charge in this country couldnt run a bath much less the olympics. I can see the positive side, and the negative, but dont think either will be as "large" as people make out. I just hope the muppets can contain themselves long enough to not make the british look like cnuts in front of the world

its all a load of shite for my boss, he owns some property round the stadium of light (in sunderland) and a year ago he was threatend with a compulsory purchase, cause they want to build an olympic size swimming pool and a fooking sports village. We heard nothing for months but now that we are getting the oylmpics, they will probably offer him shitall for the property he owns, and wont give a **** for the revenue lost over the years. But hey we still beat the frogs even if our food is shite lol

Well lets just see now, Greece, the founder of all such events, held the Olympics back in 2000 as I recall, cost them a fortune to stage, built facilities like no others in Greece for what??? They are still paying off the costs of having to build everything, thus at the expense of other things, oh that'll be health care, road structures, etc... But they have lovely stadiums they can use, errrr nope, no fecker uses them, in fact some havent been used since they held the event and that is a fact!!

What gauls me even more is that it is in London. Was 18 years since I last visited the capital, and I have no plans to go back. Why couldnt it be somewhere in the middle of the country where we could all travel to it easily without having to spend hours sat in traffic jams???

Hey what the hell, I only pay taxes. If they didnt spend it on this sh1t then theyd waste it on something else.

Nick

Oh, and I wont be going, in fact I doubt I'll even be watching it!!!

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!
