Just a note to warn other zZ owners who go out and spend loads of money getting their pride and joy in tip top condition , I insured my car with Houghton ( on this site) I told them i wanted a guaranteed sum of £7k and what did i need to do to insure this , they told me that for that sum I did not need to furnish them with anything as it was a classic car policy , so I paid my money and , assumed that was it , incidentally I paid £115 pounds more than another member of this site who, has a vastly more modified car , so I thought this was because of the fixed ammount , anyway to cut to the chase , I wrote my car off :headvswal ,and had the assessor out who told me it was a write off , ok I thought I will get 7k for it and buy another , wrong a week after the assessor came he phoned me and told me that I did not have a fixed ammount although it clearly states on my policy 7k , well to say I was p*ssed off would be an understatment , they have offered me £3680 for it and that looks like all I will get , by theway Houghton are only the brokers , Chaucer is the company I am Insured with .

My car was 93 uk auto , and anyone who has seen it will tell you it was in VGC , so the moral of this story is make sure your insurance is fixed at the price you think it is worth and get it in writing ,oh well another very expensive lesson learned

iam pleased you have told me this as i have just got mine insured for £15k with them. and iam just waiting for my paper work to come back but ive had to send loads of paper work and photos to do it. so i will ask them

im in the middle of an insurance claim at mo, my car was hit by a van whilst parked, i am claiming off the third partys insurers, i valued my car at 6k and paid extra for that, the other partys insurers were talking about writing my car off because it will cost 2k to fix and they value 300zx at bout 3k and then my car would be worth 2k or so in its current state. all what was done was the bumper (wings west) is totalled and wing dented, plus arch trim etc. however lookilly for me the inspecter who took 4 weeks to come out (do not get hit by a CIS driver lol) had no idea what the car was or was worth so has agreed for repair. he even tried to tell me that i had done 670000 miles !!! because i have a trip metre apparently i shouldnt have a tenth of a mile digit! moral of the story, insurance companies know fack all

To have your car at a fixed value then you will either have to prove your car is what you say it is by, having lots of reciepts photos ect ect or have an assessor out to place a value on it.

I know this doesn't help you mate but thats what should be done and they should of gone through this with you.

ive had all that done they gave me a figure of £15k-£18k just waiting for it in writing now

ok....so what happens if your involved in an accident where its the other parties fault. The Insurance claim is paid out by their insurer.

If you have an agreed value approved with your Insurance company, surely that does'nt mean anything when its the other parties insurance company that are paying out !?!?

If you have a legal document stating the car is insured for £7.000 then I cant see why you cant sue them. Fooking insurance companies make the rules up as they go along. It should be stopped as it is a law to have Insurance. Lets get a fooking petiton together with all the other car owner sites and call it "DRIVE 8". It seems to work for pop stars?

If you are hit by a third party then they have to put your car back to the condition it was in when you had it, if it is in there eyes a Wright off then they should ( i say should) give you the agreed value of your car.

I would seek legal adviceon this bud if i was you.

Matt

May see a soliciter about this as it states on my policy £7k in black and white

if you paid extra for that cover then take it all the way leon. fight the buggers. You could try to contact M.I.B. in Milton Keynes. they are a government run bureau that deal with any out of pocket claims sorry havent got any phone numbers but thats what they are called mate.

Cheers mate may give that a try

there is no reason why, if you have it in black and white that they will pay 7k you cant get it. Get a solicitor on the case pronto....

the more time you waste the less likely of getting it done believe me....

best of luck

Leon i have just made a call to houghton caus if this happened to me i would need to draw someones blood so i have asked what i need to give them for an assured value of my car there is no fookin way my car could be replaced for that amount although mine is a 1995 TT but i am with chaucer as well!!!
