Hi all, just wondered if any of you guys that own or have owned NA's ever had them on a rolling road, I am getting near to the end of the mods that I am doing for now and want to get some comparisions for when I get mine done.

What can you do to tune an NA?

As far as I know:

aftermarket exhaust (that's cat back, plus decat pipes plus headers for a full system)

after market air intake

different chip / reporgrammed ECU

underdrive pulley(s)

Any idea how many bhp each ones gives? And if certain things work best together?

Is there anything else or is it onto big money / big risk stuff like porting the head, nitrous, superchargers etc etc?

Wasn't one of the traders going to put together some sort of NA tuning packs?

Also, how much power is lost through an auto box?

The main difference between the N/A and the TT is the TT has tubs and the N/A has a higher CR. The engines are virtually identical. Whatever you can do to a TT , you can do to an N/A. It doesn’t have to cost the earth; basic mechanical engineering can produce good figures. I believe Jock reached good power without even touching the surface, with the techniques he used I can imagine well over 300bhp if he made some internal alterations. It’s what’s on the inside that counts and how to work it. Look at modern engines like the Civic 1.8/2.0 litre and not far behind in performance than the 3.0N/A.

In a nut shell, the N/A has a lot of potential. Get yourself a spare engine and have a play.

Ah I just so happen to have done just that, I have an engine sat on a stand right now and still wondering what direction to take, would love to do the work myself if possible, what sort of ideas can you or anyone out there throw my way, I would be prepared to spend about £5k as long as it gave me a TT eating monster that remaind reliable.

That sort of budjet you could develop something interesting.

Give us a call sometime as I will give you a few pointers

a NA comes out factory with 222bhp and a TT with 276bhp

if you add induction kit/de cat /exhaust its prob 20bhp?

zed world do a 30bhp ecu for NA (70bhp TT) for £200

combine two the NA is getting 272bhp

however a TT maunal 0-60 is 5.5

TT Auto is 7

NA maunal is 7

so a NA manual will keep with a TT Auto anyway

but a 276bhp NA manual is gonna be quicker and better than a stock TT

a) no lag

b) better acceleration cause of higher gear rations

c) replacing turbos is expensive

obviously getting much more than 276bhp from a NA is not likely which is the argument TT owners come up with.

look at it this way though a NA 300zx is quicker than most cars you see on the road and one with the power of a stock TT is bloody fast its only people with a death wish or who wanna race at santapod who need 500bhp!!!

I never meant to start tuning my NA, I origionally bought it because I loved the look of her, then added an induction kit and it snowballed, its more of a hobby now, I want her to look sound and perform as good as possible while keeping her reliable and useable. I want emphasise the reliable and useable part, I want to be able to take the car where ever I feel like without the worry of a breakdown every week and as the car is still going to be a road car not a track car I dont want something that needs to be revved hard to make go.

That'll be me then! :D 500BHP?

Yes PLEEZE!!!

THB Ill settle for 400!

Decided to cancel dyno test Thursday as i have decided to have some other mods done then take it down to be dyno'd, but as soon as i do i will pm all that wanted to know results. I am determined to make my N/A faster!!

I think my N/A has enough power anyway, Well it was able to put a nice dent in the motorway crash barrier 4 weeks ago but almost mended now was going to uprate the ecu chip but thinks i might leave it alone now well at least till i have got used to the power i have!!! ( as the car before was a auto neon crysler they do handle alot differently so I found out ) NO JOKES ABOUT WOMEN DRIVERS PLEASE, you never know when im going to be behind you lol :wack:

Do you know what bhp you where pushing out??

not sure but it has a decat, exhaust, blilz induction and can give an evo a good run for its money

Mine has a few more mods than that but I NEED MORE POWER (and longer roads) :D

And Im determined to make mine THE FASTEST  :D :D

Could be quite a few of us in the race to make the fastest NA. :D

I wont be starting for a while tho, been to busy concentrating on bodywork this summer

I took a SWB Slicktop manual for a spin a month ago and you definately have a head start on me, it had no mods at all and I could tell it was faster than mine when she was standard as well, BUT, I will give it my best shot to beat you.

indeedy!!

well so far i've put SGP racing underdrive pulley (a must mod if you are in need of a new water pump)

and that blue induction kit of ebay, and ...

oh this just doesn't feel right posting in here.... :p all toghether now!!!

For £3.5 you can get a small block ford V8 + ECU and engine management harness shipped over from the states with new engine mounts. for a further sum they'll supply you with the new down pipes and centre section. These lumps can be chipped to produce 460 + bhp without any engine mods, but you have to have your front springs reduced by 11mm because the ford V8 is smaller and lighter. + J D's Nissan (now 5ltr) V8 convertion will have cost even less and he's talking 500 ish BHP.

TT upgrades are just too expensive for the returns. I 'll be going Ford V8 nest time.

Why don’t we start a national Asthmatic shootout day  . We could have it down @ Pod sometime this year. As N/As pose a greater challenge to obtain more HP, this will be a great contest. With no hairdryers to assist us and just good old fashioned mechanical engineering on our side.

Who’s in around September Time :D

Who’s in around September Time

SUNDAY 25th SEPTEMBER is a public RWYB Day at the pod!!!!!!!!!!!!

We could have some good "head to head" runs as well as an overall "Fastest N/A of the Day winner"

Different classes too... eg non original block N/A s

Stock N/A s

modded N/A s using orininal block.

Non original block??

Z32 N/A's only as it would be more competitive this way.

I guess this part all comes down to personal opinion, for me I want to keep the 3 ltr V6 engine as, for me it is part of what a 300ZX is, the fact that it is harder to get more and more power from this engine is a challenge and part of the fun.

Spot on, my thoughts too. The engine is the heart n soul. change its not a Z32 anymore. IMO that is
