Just purchased myself a set of speedo clock from SPLATT and upon trying to fit them I have just found that the plugs on mine are sligthtly different shapes and sizes. His clocks are converted jap clocks with 180mph facias and my car is a j/spec but on the rear the connection points to mine are different ,and I am unable to plug them in , is there a work around , I can possibly mod one of the plugs to make it fit but the other is way different . I can send some one pics if you wish . .I dont want to mod the wires only to find them going bang

Sounds like you have a series 1 and a series 2 set of clocks, you can take the dials out of one and put them in the other rather than hack the wiring about.

wont i need a speedo converter though that way . My origionalclocks only have upto 100mph which is at the end of the dial. The new ones have upto 180mph in the same location , wont the needle just go round to 180mph when its really only doing 100mph or is there something in the clock that sorts that out ?

I suppose it depends on how they were converted, has a resistor been changed?

not sure , I suppose they would have been modded as he said i wouldnt need anything to make them work correctly , where is the resister so I can see if its been changed or not

just read this....not good.

Mine was series 2 so that must be why the difference.

Return as posted for a refund less postage of course) if you want mate.

Its a fairly easy thing to do so I would swap them over put them in and see if work properly, I think they will do but its hard to say without knowing exactly how they have been converted.

I fitted series 2 clocks into my series 1 car so I dont think it should be a problem Splatt, just wanted to know how they had been converted so I could say if they were going to work ok.

They were converted by the original owner, will have a look at the paperwork...watch this space...

Splatt would you have any problems in me trying this before having to return them , I am pretty good with electronics and changing things over , I should have really asked you in the first place if I had known. I dont mind aslong as it works . Can you remember if it had the resister mod ??

In all fairness, if you take em apart they are yours as you might (and I say might) knacker them (worthless then) so would be better to return them in their original state.

Cant be fairer than that.

According to the invoice on the speedo it says speedo chip £60 faceplate £20 (Plus VAT!!!!!!)

This was done by a Co in Manchester (In Car Toys) and the speedo worked fine in my car..

I fitted Series I UK clocks in my Series II jap car. Had to swap all the gubbins in the speedo cluster over, but it all fits and works.

I have both speedo out in front of me and the resistor is deffo the same so Im not too sure how it was working in your car unless you had a converter running too or ecu mapped. I am going to go down my loacl electronics store tommorow and by the 20 ohm resister to mod my origional dials . If this works fine then I will mod the ones I brought from you or use your facia , Can somebody just confirm its a 20 ohm resistor thats needed to be used for 180mph dials and will I wont I need to use the calibration pots if I solder in the new resistor ??
