Just acquired a 90 Nissan 300ZX, Auto w/ V6 3000 Engine and don't know where to start

I just bought the car, a guy owed my dad the some money and the car just there, the guy hadn't used it in a year, so you can imagine how it was. I took it to a mecanic in Tijuana, Mexico (because it's cheaper, than anywhere in California). They changed the fuel injecters, the gas pump and lines, the brakes, the filters, the oil, etc. And now I don't know where to start. I've never been a real car fanatic, do you have any advice?

Thanks,

Mario

hi mate welcome to the site, are you having problems with the car or is it ok. You will have to be more specific with what you want help with. Im sure if there is something wrong, someone on here will find a cure for it, happy zeding

is there actually anything wrong with the engine dude.

if so description of the problem is a fine place to start as we aren't all psychic!

My problem is I don't know what to change first or what to invest on first; intakes, headers, ecu chip, etc....

well the usual is air filter, chip, boost controller, then maybe decatts. Then you will need to change brakes to make it stop, then once you have got used to the power upgrades upgrade some more ie; intercoolers, turbos, internals the bank budget is the limit

as we aren't all psychic!

my crystal ball says:

your wiring harness is getting a little brittle and old, your electrical connectors are dirty and need cleaning, your intercoolers are looking a little tired, as is your radiator. Your viscous fan is starting to crack, there is a little bubbling near the top of one of your targas, the bolster of your drivers seat is very worn, when you get the car up to speed the back end feels a little loose. I also predict that if you like driving fast in the rain then you face impending doom!!!

How am I doing so far?

(Btw. welcome to the forum)

 lmfao u didnt predict ur rusty sill tho did ya hey! hehe

and sorry mario welcome

Headers usually cost loads, they're often left till later in the upgrading cos you have to pay a lot for the return you get. Most people start with a performance filter/intake and a performance exhaust. From there I'd go for decat pipes and then look at a remap or chip for your ECU, this is usually accompanied by boost jets or a boost controller, both of which will up your turbo pressure and give more bhp. However, given the age and history of your car I'd get your turbos inspected beforehand and probably reconditioned, also get some new turbo hard pipes as well as radiator pipes and replace as many hoses as you can find with some good quality replacements. If you can, find a specialist who knows about zeds, he might be able to judge what kind of condition your autobox is in by driving it. Additionally- get a mechanic to check the bushings under the car, a propshaft bearing may also be needed as these are a wear point on zeds.

Dunno why I'm laughing, I have to make new sills and subframe mounts

OK this sounds like one for me.

I think you should start with puting petrole in it, and then turning the key.

Ive still got it!

Actually- I just described my own car, leaving out the rotted sills (I figured with mexico's climate, his would probably be in good condition)

I'm the man for Sill repairs 9 hours on mine both sides and set fire to the car big style took me and the wife to put it out.:) I've never seen her so wet :)

I may have missed it but is it N/A or TT?

its automatic

Ok. I took some of your adivice and I took it to a parts plus garage to get it completely checked out; they said that my motor wasn't working to it's full capacity, that the my cilinders were working: cilinder # 1. at 75 lbs of pressure, # 2. at 75, #3 at 150, #4 at 25, #5 at 25, and #6 at 0. They said they had to open the motor and ajust the pistons and that I would need a new motor kit, etc. All for a price of $800 Dlls.

Than I took it back to my old mechanic and he said that wasn't posible because when he checked it was fine, that he had already installed a new kit a month ago, when he installed the new injectors, the new gas pump, and gas lines; now he says that my problem is my transmision, and he says he can repair it for $600 Dlls.

I really don't know who to believe now.

When I first bought the car I took it to my old mechanic, and he checked it and did all what I just mentioned, but before he never told me about my transmision problem (o he mentioned something about a lickage problem, but it was just now); when i first took the car to him, the engine wasn't fine but the car could run fast, I mean didn't need to press the clutch allot and the car would just start runnig fast, and now when I took it out of the garage the last time, it wouldn't run, when I accelerated it wouldn't respond as fast, I had to manually change to first and than it would run fast, even the rpms would start really fast.

As you guys can see I need help

I may have missed it but is it N/A or TT?
its automatic

What Chris means is, is it Normally Asperated, or is it Twin Turbo?

As Chunk sugested, http://www.300zxclub.com are very usefull, as it's a US based forum. If you register on there and post regarding your problems you'll soon get a response regarding a helpfull/trusted mechanic in your local area who should be able to give you the correct advice you need. As it's a little difficult over here in the UK, as we don't know any US mechanics :D

HTH

Thanks for the adice, I took it and its working, thanks
