i finally got round to taking the rear spoiler off my jap/zed today..

i had a bit of rust on one of the bolts in the corner so i thought fk it .. its comin off..

got hold of one corner and it started lifting quite easily.. then it got fkn ard!!

so i got a very thing wallpaper scraper,, ran some tape olong the edge where the spoiler meets the boot and pused it along to break the tape.. that didnt quite work..

so...

i got realy annoyed... i mean REALLY ANNOYED...

and ripped the thing off with one pull..... grrrrrr

and thats it off it came in one nice and neat.. tomorrow im cleaning off the tape and taking the plugs outta the holes. i cleaned the surfaces and they are fine, i also used a rotary wire brush on the end of my drill to clean all the rust away and i then cleared out some pin holes, the rust wasnt as bad as i expected. i then got my panel tools out and sorted out a bit where the yank of the spopiler had pulled a piece of metal forward, thats back flush again.

went to motorworld and got some loctite rust remedy and put that on, waited 15 mins for it to go black then put another coat on, that will do till the sun comes out and i can prime it. then its off to the body shop for filling and the new back panel and the lights and new coat of paint...

i have had it two weeks and its already bleeding me dry.. but hey.. i dont drink, smoke or do drugs.. no kids.. so what else am i gonna spend my cash on.... well there is woman but she aint getting any :slap:

god im such a fickle bast**d im not gonna fit the new spoiler to the car now.. gonna leave it manx.. no tail.. nice and smooth..

just a quick one also.. the holes left by the spoiler on the top of the lid, is the material the lid is made out of ok for me to tig some smal fillers in there? gonna cut some outta some steel and leave a 1-2mm gap and then tig in and block back if the lid will take it.. without distorting.. i aint a lover of bondo or filler crap.. metal to metal.. or replace the whole fkn thing :D

I wouldn't have thought you'd get away with any form of welding here, I'm sure my bodyshop guy said he wouldn't do it.

So i take it yours looks somthing like this then?.....

Good luck.

yea but with tig you can adjust the vlotage etc.. used it for welding aluminium sections before and doing very fine welding work, i could also braze the sections in.

how did he do yours dave?

i gotta say by the way your rear end dont half look nice all shiny and flat..

He did mine with Stuko (sp  ) I beleive.

My rear end looks even better now, as that pic was taken last year. :D

There's some pics up in my Journal of an alternative method of smoothing the tailgate without using the Perspex panel or tailgate skin (it leaves a slight lip that I didn't want) which may be of help.

Leigh.

yea that looks very nice there friday..

gonna show that to my body man see if he can do the came might save me buying the rear strip then, just have to install the diablos. and match it to that. hey friday you got a set of diablos on yours.. they easy to fit, no cutting etc to do to offer it in? i think the straight down look on the back is very nice.

hey just a thought, is there a reason why the back lower bumper sticks out that far? or can i get my bodyman to cut it down and rework it so from the top down is flush? and then curves underneath?

now that would look damn nice......., if need be i can get them to take a few inches off the exhaust pipework under the body and put a joiner in to shorten it back a small bit. and put the brackets back also. :smash:
