Well, it's my birthday soon (the day before JAE! Great excuse to carry on the "celebrations" over the weekend :duffer: ;)) and Lucie has just told me that she's going to club together with my folks to get me a DV camcorder (I've always wanted one of my own, and it means I can get some decent footage of the show!). The only problem is neither they nor I have a bloomin' clue as to which one to get! Can anyone advise me on what type would be best on a budget of about £600?

Cheers!

Leigh.

you can get a nice tidy one for a fraction of that..

I have a JVC GR D-50 EK which I paid not a lot for about 3 or 4 years ago.

Excellent quality. The rest of your birthday money could go on other stuff eh????

Check out http://www.pricerunner.com (amongst others and have a look at the reviews).

I got mine as not only is it USB compatable but has firewire too (necessary for fast download to your PC and came with video studio editing software!!

You can get a lot for not a lot now as very competative market!!

i jusy got a dvd camcorder a sony was about £500 pretty good, no tapes straight onto dvd

I just got one a couple of months ago and did alot of research into the available options. I ended up going for a Panasonic NV-GS150. Great bit of kit and got some top reviews. I think I paid about £550 for it. Takes very good video and stills as well (with an SD card).

I looked at the Sony DVD cameras, but was put off by the media (30 mins, use once and about £7 a shot). A friend of mine has one and he's really pleased with it...

you can get re writable disks now i think not sure on price though

But they cost a packet and they dont hold that much apparently.

I have a canon camera and I will stick with Canon as it is very good.

YOu get what you pay for. I had a good £500 one 4 years ago, which was superb quality. I sold that and got a new one 2 years later for the same price and the quality of the sound and picture was 10 times better. I feel that if I get another one now for the same price it will be even better.

I suggest if you have £600 dont go for a cheap one, get the best one you can get for that money.

i only got the camrera 2 days ago and didnt come with a disk, tight buggers, so off to get fleeced for disks then!!!

If your going to buy mini dvds these ones are good. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=23780&item=7524421418&rd=1

bought some form this seller some time ago and very pleased. 30minutes on each side (60min altogher) and they a re-writable so you put what you recorded into ur pc and then do what you want with the film and them format the DVD again and re-use it.

£7

loads of places to buy then cheap m8;)

and theyre the same size as the gamecube games;)

i bought one ages ago, ONLY gripe i have is the time it takes to access

the disc when changing discs, and in lp it will record an hour

i bought A FEW discs and didnt break the bank, if you just want a few to start try here

http://www.digitalpromo.co.uk/erol.html

as you can see i bought traxdatas, and do the job well

Mate, if you want something decent and easy to use & reliable then get a Panasonic!! Also buy it from Comet & not Dixons, Currys or anywhere else as there gonna give you the chepest price around & best advise!! (Except Internet!!) Jvc are good but have fiddly bits that fall off after a while & Sony's are awesome but tend to be overprice just for the name!! (I sell the Fookers and know what gets returned the most!!)

Lol! Thanks for all that guys, though I have to admit I'm still not sure what to get! :D Seems like Panasonic and Sony models are the preferred choice though. Would be good to get something that can shoot in true 16:9 as I'd like to get back into making short films. Have been reading a review of the Sony DCR-TRV60 (http://www.simplydv.co.uk/Reviews/sony_dcr-trv60.html)but it's right on the limit of the budget. Need to find something that can do all that it does for less £££'s!
