HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY - ITS FIXED !!! [nearly]

i managed to fix the car - i sprayed some electrical cleaner on the injector socket fot the failing cylinder ....and, hey presto the car is purring like ,.....well, like a ferrari type deal. i think that an occasional dribble of petrol from the fuel line above the injector has corroded the conncetions!

i cant believe the POWER its mad. i cam out of a junction in my village , put the pedal down about half way, and the back end just went shooting past me, when i finished shitting my kecks, i realised i need to do some serious 'steering in' to stop myself hitting the central reservation thingy. it was almost a case of ' 2months in the garage, 2mins on the road and back in the garage!"

then 10 minutes later i was cruisin thorugh my village [as you do] in a straight line and i floored it going about 20mph and it just went wild , snakin like a loony. i think ill have to employ a lighter foot driver method from now on - perhaps drive it in hold mode for a while!

anyway, after my joy had set in, n..........next came more bad news. i decided after a brief caning that the car might need the radiator filling up a bit. so i started to pour some cooland into the resevoir and it was just coming straight out onto the ROAD! my radiator overflow toye area has got A HOLE IN IT!!!!!! WTF !!

no wonder the fan is on all the time!!!!!!!!

no what am i gonna do??? replace it i guess!

still i couldnt help taking it out for another spin despite the new found problem [ yes , i know, probably not a good idea!]

anyone any ideas on this new problem.?

cheers everyone , ben.

Glad to hear you're sorted..

You could try patching the tank with a piece of stiff plastic and some epoxy resin?

I can't remember for sure but I don't believe that part of the system is pressurised at all..

Hi ya Ben!

Glad to hear that your Zed is finally starting to behave true to its nature wink.gif I too have been tinkering today - am in the process of installing my new JWT induction kit. Didn't get very far as the git who sold it to me sent the wrong adaptor plate. Never mind, a bit of creative drilling and problem sorted. Will finish the job tomorrow.

Which resevoir are you talking about? If it is expansion tank then that's no major problem. The expansion tank is the affair at the right hand front corner of the car (if you're standing in front of it) and has a sort of dip-stick thingy attached to the lid. The thing that happens with the expansion tank is that the filler neck separates from the actual tank bit at the bottom. You pour coolant in at the top and it never gets anywhere near the tank! Try this: take off the wheel arch liner at the front of the passenger side wheel. You will see the bottom of the expansion tank quite clearly. Feel with your hands to where the filler neck is and see if it is propperly fixed into the tank. If not it is easy to put it in. I have no idea why Nissan didn't make it a one bit piece of plastic ... there's Japanese logic for you! Anyway, hopefully that should sort out your leakage.

Further more, when filling up the radiator don't do it through the expansion tank. It's only purpose is for the radiator to dump excess coolant in when under pressure and to retrieve it when it needs extra coolant. The expansion tank should only ever hold about 600ml of coolant (there are max and min lines on it if you look carefully). Take off the radiator cap and fill it up from there ... slowly and only when the engine isn't running or hot.

Hope this helps mate - looking forward to meeting you soon again. I think there is some planning going on for a meeting at the NEC on December 22nd.

Cheers!

Danny biggrin.gif

thats a good idea aaron , nice 1. ill ask my mechanic dude in the mornin.

ps. im thinkin of unplugging one of the cylinders and running on 5 again - its too SCARY with it all working properly. eeaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh . THE POWER>>>>>>>>> im SCARED of the POOOOOOOOOOWEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!

Ben,

Glad to see you've sorted out the problem.

Try using "chemical metal" by plastic padding. I've just used it to stick my starter motor back together and it says it can be used to fill holes in tanks/radiators. It's sticks to anything.

Good luck and be carefull with that new found power!!

Vijay

classic case of zed ownership panic, first thing that goes wrong and its pistons and all the expensive bits lol. Nice one by the way smile.gif

Ben when u say your fan is running all the time do you mean the electric one in front of the rad? if so this could indicate a faulty temp connector or sensor, try wiggling it see if fan stops (its the yellow one at the front of the engine)

biggrin.gif LMAO biggrin.gif

Not wanting to blow ones own trumpet here, but look back at yer original post my friend and see what I said! ROFL biggrin.gif Credit due to others not just me being big headed as most said the same! wink.gif

Hey mate, just glad you finally sorted it out! That's the reason why I said what I did, coz I had a chug mobile running rough on 5 cyls and after a new wiring loom and a slight engine build I couldn't believe the POWER also!

Nice one Ben, glad you're sorted matey peeps! Oh I like it when people sort things on their own and don't shell over loadsa hard earned to WANKER dealers and rip-off merchants. Makes it all seem worth while! wink.gif

Doh! Actually mate, when you say "injector socket" what exactly did you mean? The loom plug? If it's something other I apologise for being so presumptuous! Muppet! LMAO biggrin.gif

right, cheers danny. and hopfully i will see you and jeff and maybe even topsquads and others on the 22nd! im gonna go and check that thing you said right now. Cheers!

and ill go and do some wiggling to, cheers jeff.

oh and by injector socket. er. i mean, well, theres the little green plug thing that connects to the coil, then if you move inside toward the middle of the engine there is another similar green connector that i presume related to the injector - i disconected that and gave it a good sprayin. im 50% speculating that a bit of petrol as dripping directly onto this connector and caused it to corrode because A) that connector has a bit of white/green discoloration on the cover and the others dont, and b) theres is a screw attached to the fuel line perfectly positioned above this connector - right in postion for a bit of petrol dripping.

anyway. im into the garage now to do what u guys tell me to do. so ill be back later!

ulness the z falls on my head with the poxy jack i have got!

cheers.

Nice one Ben!!! Timmy you arse - you said it was a faulty loom biggrin.gif Then everyone was saying PTU - I SAID INJECTOR tongue.gif So there biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Ben - the reservoir is nothing to worry about - not a hole, like Danny said its the filler neck coming out of the bottle - simple to fix and while your down there check the tie-bar bushes wink.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

er, tie-bar bushes - you'll have to englighten me n that 1!

Well it was a connector of some shape or form, so we were both right! LMAO biggrin.gif

Anyway, I could do with a bit of enlightenment here! How many connector plug type thingies are there in the makeup of one cyl???

Break it down for me will ya! Oh yeah, you did get one thing right Mandy Duff...I am an arse! LOL biggrin.gif

LMFAO Timmy biggrin.gif Quick breakdown then....

There is a connector on the coil pack and a connector on the injector. The coil is fired by the PTU which is controlled by the ECU. The injector is fired by the ECU directly. The ECU knows when to fire the injector and the relevant coil pack by determining the rotational position from the CAS.

The thing that gave the problem away in this case was that the Cat overheat warning light wasn't coming on. With a dead spark this will come on due to unburnt fuel getting into the Cat and cooking it. No light means no fuel is getting through and with a dead cylinder this can only mean one thing - the injector aint delivering....

CheerZ,

Andy

Thanks mate! biggrin.gif

That's why I love ya!!! LMAO biggrin.gif
