Guys

cars back on the road but its using water....its not coming through the pipes (No white smoke), not in the oil (no contamination) and its not leaking out the car to the naked eye.....?!?!? Hmmm.....Cars runs sweeeettt too!! But I lost 2.5l going to the pod yesterday and another 3 going home???? (75 miles each way......)

Phoned a few garages in Melton today and asked if they can do the tests, they can, but I cant watch?!? Fook that, I have learnt too much to know that I dont trust anyone else with my car so what choice do I have?

Does anyone know anyone who can do this for me? If its come to it, I'll buy a cooling system pressure testing kit and block tester......sod it......

Help...... :(

Bugger, bit far that mate, car wouldnt make it without losing some water! :D

I have finally found a garage that will let me watch them whilst they do a block test and cooling system pressure test.

After this, if they dont find ANYTHING, I'm going to insert food dye into the cooling system to try and trace where its all going?!?

I mean, 2 1/2 litres for a 75 mile journey is a lot of water, its gotta be going somewhere..??? :smash:

normally antifreeze is very good for finding leaks

did you do a water bypass when engine went in,sure all the hoses at back of plenum are connected, sometimes its hard to notice aleak til engine under load, and if the water is hot when leaking you can see limescale marks where it has leaked.

Having just changed the nearside turbo top coolant hose after a small leak I became very aware of how to make it leak when I wanted it to.

Leaving on tickover doesnt work, the fan is too good and keeps it too cool to bring on decent pressure if its already leaking.

Best is top it right up then to drive it reasonably quickly and stop, turn off, open the bonnet and wait. The heat soak will rapidly raise the water pressure and you should either feel the top hose harden or find the water leaking from somewhere. Look underneath too.

Also check the seating and sealing of the radiator cap. If its not seating well it might be throwing it all out the overflow on the expansion tank.

Favourite small leak points are the two short hoses just below and behind the top water connection that feed from the heads and the small turbo hoses at the back of the engine. The nearside one can spray a small jet that instantly goes to steam.

Thanks for those tips mate, I did a block teat ont he coolant last night and it diddnt change colour, so no gases in the coolant, thats for sure....

On tuesday I have some UV Coolant dye coming from canada that you place intot he coolant and then thrash the pants off me car. Then, grab an UV light, turn the lights off, and go finding the snail trail......

I will find out where that waters going if it the last thing I do.... :hyper:

Is there anyway I can test the rad cap and thermostat are doing their jobs properly?

Interesting, exact symptoms of my water leak but buggered if I can find it either!

Well if this dye trick works out Tim I'll send you some.... :) ;)

Roll on tuesday....I'm bored of watching my temperture gauge every drive!

If the dye doesnt show anything and neither does the cooling system presure test, the cars coming off the road after JAE and its being stripped down......

Good excuse to get the engine bay painted, steel rods, forged pistons......etc etc etc... :hyper:
