Little problem...

 

I drove my Zx yesterday (hot weather) on the highway (not at fullthrottle!), and afterwards, as usual i slowed down around 10km before I came to a stop, to let the turbos cool down. Well, I went to some shopping (5-10minutes away) came back and turned the engine on again. The temp-needel went very fast up to very Hot, to come down again a bit while driving again...

 

Is this normal due to no heat evacuation while standing? or what?

 

I'd like to check cooling water, but, no clue how to check the level of it....

when the engine is coid open the rad cap if it's low just top up. or there is the rad over flow bottle. yellow top on the right handside of engine bay behind the light.

Ok, i remember the yellow top one on the (in front to the carstanding-) right side... also the rad cap.... but..... do i just fill it up to the top? Isn't there any overpressure risk when doing this (due to hot temps)? - can i just fill in water from th kitchen? Or any special water?

top up the water until you can see it in the radiator, if its over full it will only over pressure throught the cap and settle to the right level any way. the expansion tank should have some water in it too (i think theres a dip tube with a level)

the water should be mixed 50/50 with a good quality antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor

because i live in a very hard water area i use distilled water. others us tap

dont want to tread on anyones toes but shouldnt we be using coolant mixture as apposed to just water, ,,, as it corrodes the heads water ways ,in time, !!!

I do - I use the Nissan ready-mixed stuff.

I believe that a good quality antifreeze when mixed at 50 50 ratio has all the anti corrosion properties you need.

Has anyone heard of 'water wetter', or betterstill, has

anyone ever used it & is it any good? :confused:

I use water wetter all the time, i dont know if it makes any diffrence cos when i got my car the first thing i done was remove the rad and flush it, then i flushed the engine.

I then added water wetter, i find my water temp is very stable even in traffic jams (i got stuck yesterday on the M25 for 1.5 hrs, no probs), it suppose to reduce your water temp by 10%.

Very good stuff - make sure you still use antifreeze with it though or the water will eat the insides of your engine and heater matrix.

so guys, just stopped the hot engine, opened the left screw on the rad, 'PFFFFFFFFFT' some air... then opened the rad can and added 1/4L of drinking (bottle) water... as I didn't wanted to put the 'hard-kitchen-water'. Hope i did well :D
