Can a company charge you VAT if they cant give you a VAT reciept?????

Cause way to often i get charged VAT on what i buy through people on the forum. (lets call a spade a spade)Only to ask for a vat reciept and they cant supply me one???

 

Is that not fraud???? or something to the likes.

Johnny boy was asking me about VAT the other day. It's a Brit thing fella, and to be honest it's arse!

 

I'm VAT(Value Arsed Tax) registered for my company and I just really do not see the point at all. My agency pays VAT on top of my weekly invoices, I then am supposed to hold the VAT and then every quarter submit a VAT return to the Inland Rev. whereby I pay them the VAT back??? WTF??? Why? What is the fuckin' point???

It's been a running joke in this country the old VAT thing, ask Ken Dodd and Willie Carlson about VAT!!! LMFAO

In answer to yer question matey, NO they should be able to provide you with a VAT receipt, if they don't they may not be VAT registered and just pocketing the money...not good to be honest...shop 'em!!! Or threaten to shop them!!! IMHO

There is of course 1 small slight exception, new companies don't have to register for vat, if the turnover does not reach £54,000 in the year, they pay vat on their goods supplied to them, but do not charge to the customers. They must though show any vat charged in the invoices, Things are dear enough without an extra 17.5% stuck on, smithy

Vat is a simple tax which is ultimately paid by the consumer.

 

There are various rules as to the governing of wether you should be registered for VAT or not, and different schemes within registration.

 

Company A makes a product or sells a service to company B e.g. £100 + vat (£17.50) =£117.50: Company A is collecting £17.50 for the government and £100 for themselves.

 

Company B then sells it on to Joe Public for £150 + vat (£26.25) = £176.25; B is collecting £150 for themselves and £26.25 for the government but is allowed to deduct the vat he has paid Company A and pays the government the balance of £8.75.

 

Company A pays the government £17.50

Company B pays the government £8.75

 

So Joe Public has therefore ultimately paid all of the VAT of £26.25 but the business owners have collected it for the government.

 

That's it in simple terms.

 

A company cannot charge you VAT if they cannot produce a VAT receipt for you. They also have to give you a VAT registration number.

 

No receipt, no VAT number = they cannot charge you VAT.

Judging by your reply warren to Grant's excellant explanation, i don't think that a) your grasping this or b) your still pissed, lets take an example, the stuff i sold you, the parts were sold to me, i paid vat, the products were made, i paid vat, so the vat is put into the product, i don't turn over 54,000 a year, yet ! so do not put my vat on the finished product, nor do i hide it, the vat men are very powerfull, so i would'nt dare. I sell the product with an invoice, the vat section is crossed out or left blank, as no vat is charged, this is done by the vat rules, otherwise i'm dead meat, but if it makes you happy, please authorise me to use your card for an extra 17.5% and i'll send you a receipt for it, then just for you i will register for vat !!! hope this finishes it, smithy

The reason this stupid person i am asks is i am entitled to claim vat back for anything i purchase in this country when i leave the european union.

NO WARREN,im happy to pay for the 8 phone calls, 5 emails and 2 faxes to organise the photo shoot, after pestering for the info from you, which i finally got when i called you, because of your accent i called the company "rear" not "rare" so when the mag needed liability confirmation they could'nt locate company, as you would never give me the phone number they contacted you, now for christs sake, stop finding things to moan about and go to bed, cos iam, i,ve been travelling since 5.30am this morning which is why i have not contacted you and i'm fooked and pissed off, smithy
