quick question..

i was told that the reason the roof trim on my zx is black is because the japs dont like it chrome, so they paint it.. that right? as some of the trim on mine is showing a very nice chrome strip under it and coated with some sorta black paint?.

also the grill that the front wipers goes through is a little tatty.. is it ok to take them off clean them and then prep them and then paint them pearl yellow or.. should i just buy a new set of blacks.

I also want to take the spongy rear spoiler off to check underneath and cleant it up, how to remove this?

another thing where can i get a owners manual and a service manual..sorta like a haynes book..

mines the same i thought it was just that the previous owner had covered it, but like you say, its nice under that plasticy coating. didnt know they were all the same.

it should be ok to paint the grille if you get it clean enough, with all the polish off it and spray it with the right type of plastic primer

I think as standard the trims are black but over the years the black coating cracks and comes away revealing the chrome underneath, as for the scuttle panels, the choice is yours, new ones are available from Z centre as are new roof trims. Theres a link somehwere for spoiler removal, do a search and u will find it, if not i will have a look for you.

if there are photos of yas's shorty aound he has taken off the black coating and left them chrome

alex

they are not actually chrome they are stainless steel you can polish them up but some of the rubber coating especially the window screen one stops water seeping near the screen seal thus helping to prevent leakage.

what i have done is rub them back scraped the rubber till it is sorta smooth then filler primer them, then spray them with black paint.... or you could spend £200 and buy new ones

if there are photos of yas's shorty aound he has taken off the black coating and left them chrome

yeh mines been removed and polished but i didnt do it and neither did the previous owner so im guessing one of the japs did :D
