microsoft outlook has a setting called "out of office" where you can set your own automatc reply, every email you get will be replied to with this email. Also outlook 2000 and later you can have different responses for different groups of emails (for example if you have set up groups so friends, family, work, 300zx.co.uk etc...). Its fairly easy to set up, in outlook go to Tools then Out of Office Assistant.

Ben

thanks chaps but I cant find it yet I have a brand new laptop??

Chris .. do you leave your connection to the Internet on permanently then? The laptop will be powered on all the time you are on holiday?

If not, and it may be me being a bit of a cock, surely you will have to arrange a auto-responder with your email provider as it will go to their mail server.

Think carefully before announcing to the world that you won't be at home for a couple of weeks ... You may come home to find less there than when you left !

ok sorry

Ill re arrange my words

I have an office no one know where it is who has a connection with me anyway, its sucurity man'd 24hrs etc

so thats not really a prob plus my dad is here most of the time.

so my dad will still be around hell download my mail then the computer will auto respond...?

thanks

chris

Ahhh .... I will just crawl into my corner then where I belong.

Like Ben said then ... do a search for ut of office assistant from your email client help menu ..

Should find it then

AH if your laptop is brand new then it may not have office on it. There is a free pop3/smtp mail client available call incredimail, i dont know where to find it but im sure its listed on download.com or google it. This also has auto response settings. You will need to know your mail server addresses though, your isp will provide these. They are usually mail.>.com (e.g mail.tiscali.com) for recieving mail and then mail.>.com or smtp.>.com if that makes any sense ?!

Out of Office Assistant only works with Exchange Server AFAIK. It's really designed for a corporate environment where the server sends the autoreply so the client PC doesn't have to be switched on.

Steve :)

* EDIT * I'm referring to Outlook 2000, so not sure if this has changed with more recent releases ;)

Shouldn't make any difference - i set up MDaemon Mail Server with Outlook Clients where I used to work and swear the autoresponders are generated from the client computer (you can send instruction email to server to set up server-side responder on MDaemon though).
