Whats the most bhp that anybody has heard out of a N/A as i am sure that if properly done up it can have just as much power as a stock TT but without the lagg. ;) I thought i had seen a thread saying Danny at DTA is in the process of modifying a N/A to push out a lot of bhp, and then will be selling the stuff to do it. Correct me if i am wrong. :o

Change your engine and you destroy everything bout it, it will never be the same machine again "for better or worse".

No Lag, lower over all weight, dry sump so no oil surge, better weight distribution, V8 noise, ~9k redline - got to be for the better, I don't know how I'll live with myself!

TBH I'd be surprised if a few nissan engineers never thought of it, just like the 16v 205GTi never happened but the car was better in every way for the Mi16 transplant.

no more so than a zed with 100kg's of plastic panels, different lights etc IMO! :slap:

& the title of the thread was "what is the max bhp that an N/A has reached??" - no mention of origional engine!! :D

hats off to JD & co for going for it IMO :)

what is the max bhp that an N/A has reached!!! Er an F1 Car 8-900 bhp

The post was refering to a Z32 N/A with its own V6, otherwise it would of said. :slap:

Cosmetics dont count, as underneth all that plastic its still the same machine.

Back to the original thread me thinks........

From our research in the past, there has not been an Z32 N/A JDM "V6" in the UK with more than 280bhp. This of course rules out SC and Nitros. Even in the US the highest recorded N/A in this cat had approx 240 @ the wheels. There may of been some others that we missed but not many.

You can definitly obtain 300bhp or more from an N/A by following simple but costly upgrade paths, its not rocket science.

JD has gone with the 3500cc lump so to eliminate turbo lag and create a more drivable machine. Fantastic idea, Iam not sure if it would of worked out cheaper to engineer the stock V6 but when the V8 is complete it will have a lot more potential. Johns base HP far exeeds that of a modded V6 anyhow, so lots of room for improvment.

Good Luck ;)

John what your doing is excellent, Iam behind you 100%

You know were iam coming from though

I just wanted to say that I think what JD is doing is fantastic ... I honestly can't wait to see how it all turns out.

Good luck matey ;-)

And now back to the topic ....

have you ever seen the video of paulc back flipping and kicking major arse, generally we apologise to paul even if we are being nice to him lmao.

No mate I missed that. I dont wanna fight the bloke. :nono:

Karate is a fine thing. with many different sytles. I am sure he is very good and probably a Black belt or even danned? That nevertheless dosent give him the right to call me a hunch back just because I dont agree with him. I didnt call him any bad names did I? Apart from that I aint going to explain myself again. I have been on this site for 3 months and met some nice people and some not so nice. If Paul wants to do a back flip and try to kick my ar5e let him say so? Have you ever seen me do a forward flip and fall over. No! LOL.

Do not judge others before you first learn to judge yourself.

A fine bit of chinese Philosophy from the matial arts.

I tried to calm the situation with a bit of light hearted fun with Paul but to no avail. There, that speaks for itself. You cant please all the people...........all the time?

Sorry for expressing my opinion and getting involved in this thread. :x:

Bye for now.

I think what John's doing by using the Q45 engine is what Nissan would probably have done if it had been available when the Z32 was being designed.

They could only use what they had and what would fit under the sleek bonnet of the car, hence no 4wd too. It was a lot cheaper and quicker to develop the z31's engine than an all-new one.

Good luck to JD (and others) who are going down this route!!

Anyone know what this Q45 engine comes in as standard?

Or what horsepower it makes?

Edit:

Looked at Google!

Are you thinking of the VH or VK engine?

Comes in the infiniti Q45 saloon. The engine code is VH45DE or the later VK45DE. VH is around 300bhp stock, VK around 370.

Looking at the VH design, it's restricted by intake and exhaust manifold design. Inlet valve area is huge and CR 10.2:1 so plenty of potential. Also, nissan as ever run it over rich. JWT chip makes over 30bhp every time, and knowing JWT that'll still be tame. Stock engines with just a remap and headers are usually over 350bhp.

Excellent John - sounds a really exciting project.

Do you think you could put one in a NA 300ZX without needing lots of other mods?

Cheers for your replies and arguements guys, but i am sticking with original engine just going to swallow my service manual, strip, clean and modify the car and think about nitrous.

Yes, just as easy as putting it in a TT really if not easier (no intercoolers etc to remove). Basically you need:

Engine

Adaptor plate for Z32 gear box

ECU of some sort (I'm using emerald).

Intake manifold (I'm going independant runner with individual throttles) + air boxes and filters

Exhaust manifolds

Dry sump + pump and tank

You might be able to retain the stock intake and ECU but you'll likely need a bonnet bulge.

Do you mean then that we can use our existing engine mounts? or am I wishfull thinking?

I have been thinking i might skip the nitrous and consider a Supercharger, does anybody know much about the installation of them and how much expected to pay and best place and type to get???????????

There are a couple of SC which can be fabricated to fit. The most common location is to bolt it on in place of the aircon pump. Many folks use universal types and fabricate there own piping. You will need an intercooler as these things generate some heat and this is not good. I did a little research last year and found that the charger its self cost between $2-4k depending on what type you went for.

Send me a PM sometime "as I will forget" and I will dig out some info which I found.

Contact turbo technics about their blowers, very nice units.

Are they universal John?

Yeah, it's a centrifugal blower with a gear set on it. Much more efficient that roots types. Don't know what sizes they do, but they're apparently great on the k series in the elise

That would save importing one with no UK warranty.

Wonder if there more reliable than their turbo's :p

Well, my NA has 173bhp/litre, so there's something to aim for. :p

Have you considered messing with gearing, esp the final drive? Obviously that doesn't change peak power, but it might put it in a more useful place...
