my brakes are poop!

fitted ebc discs and pads all round plus bled the system not that there was any air in anyway..

but my brakes are shite still I would say anyway..

I know it takes time for them to bed etc

but the pedal is still softish Ive bled them properly and theres no leaks anyway so its not loosing pressure.

I was expecting a little bite at least even my g/f's corsa has a sharp stop when you push abit harder ie throw your head forward

whats wrong?

maybe an idea to change the fluid if its been in a while ?

Could be stuck Caliper pistons (very common on the zed), or leaking master cylinder seal (allows fluid to leak past the piston, reducing braking force).

To check master cylinder seal, when stationary press down hard on brake pedal and hold it there for about 10-15 seconds. If the pedal stays firm and in the same position then its fine, if it starts to get lower the longer you push it then fliud is leaking past.

I dont think the zed with stock spec setup has the initial "bite" that modern cars have (personally i prefer that....it gives a more progressive feel and u know whats happening). This can lead to people thinking the brakes are not as effective, but its stopping distance are still pretty impressive.

p.s Heard lots of bad stuff on the ebc pads for the zed.

When you say you bled them properly, what was the order in which you bled the wheels in??

Should be N/S/F, O/S/F, N/S/R, then O/S/R

Start furthest away from the ABS pump.

somewhere else said something totally different about the bleed order,

I didnt bleed the ABS unit but the fluid coming out every other corner didnt have any air locks etc sO i dont think the rest will.

probably mistake but will it make that much difference

correct bleed order is n/s/r - o/s/r - n/s/f - o/s/f - rear on abs pump and then front on abs pump.

Thats what it says in the workshop manual.

A Corsa probably will have much sharper brakes. It's simple because, like most 'normal cars' they have much larger vacuum assistance than the Zed has. Large vacuum assistance gives a very sharp but quite a non-linear response. The Zed (like most proper sports cars) has less assistance. This means slightly more pedal effort but much more progressive brake control.

Make sure your brakes are properly bled but you never will, and never want to approach Corsa brakes in terms of 'sharpness'.

Actually, the Nissan engineers may have been too conservative with the brake feel because a larger vacuum assist was added to the very late 99 models.
