air pipe problem

Putting the zed back together and under the steering wheel there are 2 black air channel boxes.

How the F**K do you put the big one in? I have removed the smaller one but when I try and twist it in and up into the part behind the center console, it just wont go!!! Ive spent nearly 45 minutes now laying in awkward positions, twisting and turning the pipe. Im presuming it goes in that side first then into the right hand side for the door vent shaft afterwards.
