Hello all... Just thought I would say hello as Im a new boy here!

Im not gonna bore you all with the usual newbie (search is your friend) type questions! But any advise would be gratefully recieved!

After talking to Ryan from Z Tech (great help) I am now on the look out for a near stock Zed, as this seems my safest bet to finding a healthy one!

I am currently looking into getting myself one imported, that way hopefully I can find one with a few handling mods (maybe suspension, brakes or wheels... or all!?) & then with Ryans help, sort the tuning out in this Country!

Has anyone else taken this route? Any potential pit falls, problems or things of note to look out for? Obviously I have the buying guide on here but anything I may have missed will be a help.

Most of all I look forward to getting a mint 300 of my own so that I can become a greater part of this community! My intentions are to do basic enigine mods.... Exhaust, intake then tune & chip! Interior retrimmed nicely.... Maybe a subtle bodykit.... Eibach springs on stock shocks with tein sway bars to sort handling ... then at a later date maybe address the brakes!

How am I doing?

Oh & sorry for the novel.... But this is my introduction!! :D

Hi and welcome!

Keep a good eye on this forum in the for sale section, I've seen some very nice Zeds come up for sale recently. And you'll have the advantage of decent and honest history of the cars.

Hi mate.

Imported cars are neither here nor there.

They are usually modified quite a bit or totally standard. There are cars inbetween, but all the ones I have seen are standard or modded.

Plus the Japanese who mod them love having gadgets and dials in the cockpit and most are not bothered with having wires showing which personally I dont like

If I was you I would try to find a totally standard import if you are looking for an import. Most have already had the wheels changed, usually to F40 replicas LOL.

I would choose a standard one as you usually get no history with an imported car, you may get some but it will be in Japanese and, unless you can read it, is usless. If the car has some visiable mods, you dont know whether there are any internal mods, or if the turbos are standard or not.

This can cause problems if the engine is running 450bhp but the engine parts are basically stock where you would be pushing them to the limits.

With totally stock there is a greater chance the engine would not have been stressed and is more likely to be looked after and in better condition.

Handling is one of the things which people over look. Better shocks, springs, roll bar, and stut braces can really transform the cars handling. Most ZXs are close to 15 years old with parts such as suspention and springs, are probably the same. Even if they have been changed halfway through the cars life, they are still nearly 8 years old and based on 1980s technology, so there is a lot of improvment that could be made.

As for the engine modifications. You are doing it correctly starting with the simple things, but let me warn you. You will want more power after a year or so with those mods. I was happy with the mods you listed. I ended up taking the engine out and totally rebuilding it for even more power. :D LOL

Good luck with your shopping. :D

Stuart

Welcome :D

Spot on !...have you been reading my mind ? :D

Ok guys well thanks for the help & feedback!!

Another car I have been considering is the Fiat Coupe 20v turbo.... Any thoughts? Or am I about to feel the back of somebodies hand!?

The Fiat is a good car. It's fast.

But it's front wheel drive and lacks the Z's build quality and presence. And the Z is faster, especially if tuned.

I'd go for a Nissan 200SX S14A over a Fiat Coupe Turbo. You'd get a much newer Fiat or 200SX than 300ZX for the same money (although you can get 300ZXs as late as 2000 from Japan but they'd be over £10K).

Everyone to their own, but  It's ugly, plain ugly...........and probably made from lego and dried pasta. I'd rather a 1970's fiat 127 sport. Fiat used steel in those days.

Hi and welcome,

Sounds like you have a sensible plan, I would do the brakes much sooner, the GTR R33 set up is excellent and it changes your confidence in the car when you can stop properly :)

Some Interesting comments in there! I particularly like the one about the Fiat being made of Pasta & the like!! lol............ I actually quite like the look of the Fiat's, but am still not sure that is the route I wanna take!?

I also like the 200sx S14a very much & that was one of my other potential cars! I owned an s13 for a period of time & that was a great car.

It still comes back to the presense thing you were talking about though! & boy does the 300 have that?

Ahhhhhh the more I think, the more confused I get!?? Help...........

Oh & Mr Zen!! lol... Nice advert! I have added you to MSN so hopefully I can have a good chat with you at some point? When are you normally online?

Scott

Ok well thank you..... I am on MSN now & will be all day so if you have chance to speak then please do!

Oh & if anyone else fancies a chat then feel free to talk Zed's with me.....

I'd have a Nissan over a Fiat.

I had a S13 for six years and nothing went wrong. I had the turbo re-conned and four shocks replaced but that was it in six years and 55,000 miles (It had done just aver 100,00 when I sold it).

My 300 hasn't gone srong either in about 18 months (touch wood - cursed meself now!)

A mate had a Fiat coupe and had loads of problems.

I'd definatly have a S14A over a fiat coupe - or a decent 300ZX!

I have to honestly say you are the first person I have heard say that!

Even guys on the skyline forum notice no difference upgrading to ap six pots from their normal R33 brakes, it is only under track conditions they notice a difference.

Maybe there something not working 100% on them
