Brown Bread

Dynamat

Other?

Can anyone actually compare or have experience and describe the actual noise reduction gained from these? Is it really noticable?

Im wondering whether to get some to reduce the road noise...Im not too bothered about the weight ill just chip the car :)

I have dynamatted my car completely, it does make a difference, especially to the quality of sound from my ICE.

what about cutting out road noise, and where is the most effective locations to apply it for that purpose.

I've just bought 3 roles of Ivanhoe Sound deadening, which is the same as Brown Bread (different naming becuase different country of origen) to cover the bottom of my boot.

It does kill some road noise but not a great deal in my opinion, I covered the boot floor and sides completely, under the rear seat and sides and both doors completely. Dynamat sells a trade box for about £100 that has enough material in it to do all this. Personally I would say if you want to cut noise its a lot to spend and do for limited results, if you want it to improve the quality if sound from your ICE then it is worth doing.

so does it cut out the road noise alot? Im sorry to ask the obvious but its that road noise such as motorway driving with some slightly above average speakers im trying to improve...

for some reason in the morning (poss cold car) its alot worse than in evening, i can hardly hear the stereo with my semi decent JBL speakers due to the road

I read its the boot lining, but my noise sounds like under me and the tyre noise...

ok, had hoped it would be more effective at killing road noise too, but not too fussed as its for my new ICE install anyway.

Cheers

oops sorry i sent that just as you replied

When I first bought my car it had Jap rubber on and I got a lot of road noise off them, after fitting a decent set of Goodyear F1s it became a lot quieter, could that be the problem you have?

ive got 17" michelin pilot sports all round, that helped, then also changing the exhaust to a mongoose as well, it just seems to be loud and my speakers are set in the standard location by the feet so im sure that doesnt help the sound travel...as im sure you notice certain road surfaces make more noise than others, when driving at about 80 its not exactly quiet tho (windows are closed :) )

£100? Feck! Won't carpet underlay work? :D

My new exhaust on my 200 is mashing my brain lol so think I'll sort some sound proofing for the boot, although £100 would keep me topped up with Nurofen for ages :wack:

Im working with a no expense spared strategy on my Zed

I went and bought a thick felt from my local car motor factors and put it all round the rear, including the spare wheel compatrment and it works wonders. It was the first thing i did because of the noise of the wet on the road. Only cost 20 quid!!

Blimey that's weird. I was going to start a thread tonight asking if anyone knew of any cheap sources for Dynamat/Dynamat Extreme etc as I'm about to do this myself!

Something that hasn't been mentioned so far is expanding foam. I'm currently experimenting with it as a material for sculpting my dash in but it's a very useful sound deadening tool. It weighs a helluva lot less than matting and enables you to get into those hard to reach places in the car (just don't get it on your hands, use too much or put it in the doors if you want your electric windows to work again...;))

I'll be posting pics in my Journal when I've done it (and when I can get hold of some for a decent price...the matting costs a fortune!) :)

Leigh.

come on now fellas ..everybody knows sound doesnt travel in a vacum so simply borrow and wear a scuba divers breathing set, close the windows and pump all the air out of the zeds cabin ...hey presto a quiet car !! :)))) all for free ...............got to lay off this funny tobacco stuff ......

pmsl! where did ya get the dynamat for £100 from? thats quite a good price imo! i paid halfrauds 40 for 2 rolls that just lined the bottom of my boot! :hdvswall:

Just had a look it was from a place called car audio direct, I found it online and it was by far the best price I could find, its called dynamat xtreme bulk kit.

would it not be cheaper to get some good felt underlay for carpet .....

It would definately be cheaper but I did not have a problem with excessive noise, I like to hear my engine and exhaust to be honest, I wanted to improve the sound of my ICE which this certainly has done, I imagine felt underlay would be good for noise reduction but would it have the same enhancing qualities for music?

i used to use, a sticky lead flashing, we use it on conservatories, its bought from builders merchants,,, its not as heavy as it sugeests by name either and is sticky just heat it up a little and roll it on works fine, and i bought big roll for £30 and did 2 cars with it ,
