I come in peace...as you can tell from my username i own a Supra, I can hear the groans from some of you already ;) (read some of the original posts)

I'm enquiring on behalf of a friend of mine who is very interested in getting a 300ZX.

Ideally he would like a manual TT (UK or Jap, LWB or SWB) on a newish plate with lowish mileage for around the £6k mark (don't we all!) is this possible? If so can you point me/him in the right direction and give a bit of infor on them.

I've found the http://www.300zx.org.uk/model_variations.htm & http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/buyingZ.htm which were very helpful.

Theres a few of my friends who have a variaty of cars, Skylines R32, R33, R34, EvoVI and RX7. We like to go to Santa Pod a lot and therefore do the occational mod. I know for under £2k you can get squeeze an extra 80 bhp from a supra, what kind of mods can you do to a 300zx for a budget and what increases can you expect from that too.

Any of you run a standard stock 300zx down the 1/4 mile and what did you get ?

Thanks a lot guys (and girls)

cheers ... for some reason i thought you may be selling something LOL ... Seriously though good to have you here ..

Not sure what a stock Z will do on the 1/4 mile.. guess on 14's ...

as for price you can pick up a decent one 5-5.5k maybe more for a sweet one

pay ya money you take your choice as they say

as for mods decent exhaust with decat boost controller and ECU upgrade that will cost you avout 1k and will increase performace to approx an extra 60bhp but this is all average! after that with the v6 layout its engine out job for bigger turbos, but with the above mods low 13s can be gained at the qtr mile bit more power who knows :D

Chunk runs 13's nearly .. methinks and Pete has had some good times .. (I'm not talking aout the pod though ;-)

LOL

For basic mods on my zed I spent about £1k this included filter, decat, chip, boost controller, RPS street clutch. According to my rolling road readout I have got an additional 110bhp over the stock 280bhp.

Check out the for sale section on this forum, there is a nice SWB TT manual for sale if your mate is prepared to pay a bit more.

Are you a bad boys? ... scaring monkeys!! with you big bad supra lol ...

Not sure what you're saying ? monkeys ? eh ?

we're all car enthusiasts and like our individual cars for what they are drivability/performance/looks etc.

I myself have a lot of respect for the 300zx, hense i'm keen for my mate to get one but obviously want him to get a top quality one.

I've driven or been a passenger in most performance Jap cars but not a 300zx. As you're probably aware of the Supras (controvesial) sequential turbo system i.e. the serge of torque and power at the 4,000 rpm which throws you back in your chair, what characteristics has the z got is it a smoother delivery of power, does the V6 provide low down torque?

Is the 4WS any good, do you actually notice it working?

Not having a go mate .. I'm strange sorry ... well you have come to the right place for Z'ds mate ...

Can't say for other Zeds here but mine scares the shit out of me ... I'm only running 14 psi but it is very very quick ... I always have a battle with the fronts when I put the power down ... don't know why .... I just love it to bits ....

Steve, I'm in East Sussex .. If you want a go in a good Z then you are welcome ...

cheers

Chris

Cheers guys

A few of us are going Santa pod JAPSHOW on Sunday 19th June, I would like to have a chat with a few of you if you're going and Monkey Man :smw: i'll take you up on your offer.

Welcome,

Plenty of power before the turbo's kick in, and a relatively lag free low spool up at 2900rpm, and is a very smooth delivery.

Low 13's, maybe high 12's can be ran on basic breathing and boost mods at about 14psi. Stock quater miles are printed at anything from 13.8-14.2

Many people disable the HICAS 4WS, preferring it without. Its an additional drivers aid that some like, some hate. The main problem being that after 10-14 years its components wear and its often simpler just to disable it then.

Battle with the fronts.....Chris you sure were'nt facing the wrong way LOL

HICAS is that the traction control? yeah the supra version is a bag of shite too especially in the rain it makes things worse i always turn it off as soon as i get it.

derr, just read it properly HICAS = 4WS

I don't think its as simple as that but i know what you mean ;) There is a very simple way (5 min job) of changing the seq way into TTC (True Twin turbo Conversion) which delivers the power more gradually.

I'd love to have the money to fit a large single but the GF wouldn't be too impressed :(

Sups are very reliable, if something does go wrong 9/10 times its a split hose

The only bad thing i can say about my car is that is handles extremely badly in the cold rainy weather, but what do you expect running that sort of power throught the rear wheels. how does the 300zx handle in these conditions ?

LOL :slap:

Any chance we could persuade you to sell the Supra and buy a Zed?

............i didnt think so :nelson:

To be honest mate the Zed is a little on the heavy side and in the rain it aint to bad unless you push it to much and then your in BIG trouble but its all the same for big powered rear wheel drive cars.........IMHO ;)
